Harry Potter???
The last book that's coming out in July is called "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows."
Apparently through J.K. Rowling interviews, she's going to "Kill Harry Off."
Probably because she doesn't want anyone else ripping her idea off if he stays alive at the end of the last book.
Fair point. Shame. What they really need is a Harry Potter anime.

I love Harry Potter, but I don't go as far as write fan-fiction or read it, but I occasionally wonder what a Luna/Malfoy pairing would be like.
It's one of my favorite fantasy series and I love the movies despite them not being completely accurate to the books.

The Goblet of Fire film doesn't really follow the book that well. In my opinion though.
The same thing happens to Sherlock Holmes, locked in death with Moriarty as they fall off a cliff together.
We'll see about Harry.
I find Snape very interesting. He, of course, has always been an ambiguous character. In the end of the last book, Harry observes that he has cast Dumbledore out a window to his death...but...Harry has always been wrong about his observations of Snape from the first book when Snape is saving him with a spell and Harry thinks that he is using a spell to hurt him. Perhaps Harry has, once again, been confused by his own observations.
That's just my speculation. Only J. K. Rowling knows for sure...until July.
Sometimes, when I'm explaining the term NT to NT's, and I'm telling them that "typical" is not necessarily a compliment, if they're Harry Potter fans, I compare it to "muggle."
Very interesting, I have noticed the proliferance of mythological references in the books, and made many connections to other works of literature, and also noted the social comments within, but I had not considered Arthurian legend, which is, in fact, an interest of mine, albeit not as deep an interest as I would like. It is one of those things that intrigues me and summons up odd feelings of mystery, but which I have yet to fully pursue. I had to study some of Le Morte D'Arthur at uni... I did English BA, but have to return to finish my final year as I totally lost motivation and lost myself in my own interests.
What are your opinions on what has made the series such a success among both adults and children, apart from the obvious good timing ?
ICK.

I should know. I once read a fanfic where Harry and Hermione accidentally switched bodies. At the time, Hermione and Malfoy were involved in a secret love affair, and had had a date scheduled in the Room of Requirement two days after the inadvertent transfer. Three guesses what happens next .

Harry - Arthur
Ron - Launcelot
Hermione - Guinivere
Dumbledore - Merlin
Voldemort - Mordred, etc.
I think the books are such a success because she has an incredible ability to create a world, separate from the "real" world and yet totally probable within its own paramaters. I think the movie are popular because of the books (and that is not the norm these days).

JKR has NEVER said that. Headlines make it seem like she did, but she hasn't said he's gonna die. She's been purposefully obscure about the subject. Daniel Radcliffe has said he thinks Harry'll die, though, and some articles have said that some authors have done it so they won't be pressured to do sequels or so there won't be sequels written by other people.
Additionally, a note on Snape: never forget that he made the Unbreakable Vow, which, as its name implies, can't be broken. He would have had to kill Dumbledore even IF he is a good guy. Plus, if he was REALLY a bad guy, then it would be really inefficient storytelling to have him start out bad, turn out to be good, then turn out to be bad again. I think he's a good guy.

I have to say, I believe Harry will die. I believe that the only way to kill V will be to kill off Harry, especially given my belief that Harry may be a horcrux...the evidence being the traits he has that are also Tom Riddle traits, the scar connection, the ability V has to possess him through that connection. To me, there have been numerous hints at his containing a part of Voldemort...or rather, of Tom Riddle, the person before he became Voldemort.
As to Snape... I am not sure he isn't there to show the reader that nothing and no-one is entirely black and white, or what they seem. In which case, he is neither good nor bad, but rather a mixture of the two and prone to mistakes as much as the next person. Maybe he has a fatal flaw, or hubris, as I believe it is called. A need for control, maybe? A need for recognition that gets in the way of his positive side? Either way, he has not harmed Harry as of yet and I agree, he had no choice but to kill Dumbledore, though there is the question of why there was a look of hate on his face as he did the deed. Maybe he had to force hate to complete the act.
Something amusing for the Harry Potter fans...and even the Hp Haters. Comic Relief spoof called 'The Chamberpot Of Azerbajaen'

I love the HP books. I can't wait for my kids to be old enough to ready them too. The Goblet of Fire is my favorite, but I wasn't as crazy about the fifth. I found the last two movies very disappointing also. I think it was the clothing issue, they were all wearing "stylish" clothes and very rarely robes, just too comericalized I guess??]
Right now I am more in to the Christopher Paolini books although the movie was BAD
