I'm taking the train to Philly sometime in the next two weeks.

This would be exciting, except for the reason I'm going.

Ever since I started being home-schooled, my mom's always started forcing me to always go to boring art museums.

This time is no exception, and it's a Salvador Dali exhibit, as if seeing his museum in Florida wasn't enough!! !! !

God, I just with I could talk my mom out of it, as I can give up mass transit if it means this s**t!! !! !

Well, she obiously wants you to learn about Dali. Perhaps you could suggest that you would do a report of surrealist artist instead. That way you prove you are learning and so she's happy and you get out of the trip so you're happy.

We are inspired by others. This is how
we find our things of interests. The more
you branch out in music(classical, rock,
opera, rap, soul, r&b, ect...) the more
you can appreciate music from all generations
and understand your favorite musicians
inspirations. BUT how were were these
people inspired, Hmmm? Art museums,
graffitie art, sound art, sculpture art,
and classic art, because art isn't just
paintings, but the inspirations and discoveries
that have to start somewhere when you
were younger.

I say your about 15? I discovered art rock
or if this term is unknown(©68'-72') and
so were some of your modern artists
(see-90's rock).

I could go on, but I think this should
be enough for now.

Sincerely.
Ghosthunter(Caligraphy and watercolor
fan as well as classical and art rock fan,
ISN'T ART WONDERFUL!)

P.S....Music and Physical art are connected!

I hate art, but as a kid loved going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC because of their great Egyptian stuff. Is there anything at the Philadelphia museum that you'd like to see? Can you talk your mother into seeing that, too?

BTW, my mom doesn't make me do reports.

And there is nothing I'd like to see there. And it's not just this time that she makes me go to art museums.

Every time I go to NYC, it's like this: Take a bus into the city, see a shrink or some other doctor, walk 2 miles, have lunch, go to an art museum, take the bus back.

I can't stand the fact that I'm always forced to go to art museums!

From Ghosthunter....

Based on that schedule I would
think the shrink part sucks, not
the art museum.

That's true. Although I like art and did a lot of it when I was at school, I find art galleries creepy, like I'm visiting a mausoleum or something, there's something 'dead' about art galleries.

From Ghosthunter....

I can partially agree that they are creepy(or dead-like)
but when that one piece inspires you your attitude
and obsession about art can change and you find yourself
wanting to explore it further be it creepy to be in a art museum.

:( I wish I could go to that art museum and see the Salvador Dali exhibit!! ! Dali was an outcast, like us, he was truly weird, and he had a family that supported him in it. I don't think he was aspie, but he was most definitely unique. I read a biography about him....he was really cool.

I haven't been to an art museum in years...I am so jealous I could cry!! !

When I was in Paris I went to the Pompidou Museum of Modern Art. That one was definitely NOT boring. Some of the things I saw there were ordinary and some were bizarre, but one in particular was so disturbing I felt sick. It was a multimedia presentation by a woman who would cut herself with razor blades or broken glass, climb ladders with embedded knife points, etc. in front of a "performance art" crowd. I just couldn't believe that (1) someone would do that and call it entertainment, (2) people would go to watch it happen, and (3) any museum would have the courage to show an obviously mentally unstable person bleeding all over the place. I'm glad it was the last exhibit on the top floor as I had a really strong need to get out of the building after that one...

I've been to a Dali show and it was surprisingly disappointing. His work looks much better in reproduction - the real thing is often quite badly painted, I had thought he would be a technically high grade painter, but he's not. Still like the works and the ethos behind them, though.

I really think you need to appreciate what you have, 171NewYork. I am not a major visual art fan, but if I had the opportunity to go to art museums as often as you, I would do it in a second. It is true that not everyone needs to like every type of art. But I do hope that you have an appreciation of the classic artists. If not for their work alone, but for their amazing skill, creativity, and inspiration.

Also, it is likely that quite a few of the more famous artists had AS.

I live in the middle of the forest and I am really jealous of all the people who live in either NewYors Paris or London or something. It would be so awsome to just go to all the museums and stuff everyday...
I guess you can't like all types of art wich is proably why there are so many forms of art and ways to express art.
