The leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, has been wounded (link), according to a report from NBC news. There are conflicting reports as to whether he has been captured. If al-Masri were captured or killed, it would be the second high-profile victory for U.S. forces in a short time. On Tuesday, the 13th, it was reported that the leader of the Shi'a militia the Mahdi Army, Moqtada al Sadr, had fled to Iran do to worries (link) over the recent U.S./Iraqi operations.
The United States is currently debating a resolution condemning President Bush's plan to send 20,000 additional troops to Iraq. It is unclear if these developments, or other successes or failures of "Operation Law and Order" will change any minds in congress.
