Looking for a therapist (UK)
I have been looking for a therapist for almost six months now, but they keep telling me they don't have 'the specialist experience to help me. It's becoming extremely stressful.
I think it's because I mention my diagnoses' (because I think they're important to consider if you're going to interact with me), despite the fact that I'm not looking for someone to help me with autism/tourettes/dyspraxia related things, I have support workers for that stuff.
Does anyone have any advice for finding someone who'll let me have a face to face meeting with them before telling me 'no'?
As Palladium says, a lot depends upon what you are looking for.
Private expect to pay anything from £120 to £50 per session depending upon who you go with. You could try the BACP website as they are the main professional body for the UK.
NHS, you will wait for an age to see somebody and they might not be suitable.
can you not ask your support worker for assistance finding somebody as they will presumably be from the local health authority?
Hope you get sorted.
