This is a very simple way to get a very curly "perm" look without the commitment, $100 fee, or hair damage. Do this. First, get a bottle of that cheap LA Looks styling gel. The firm kind. It's at the Dollar Store or Wal Mart. Part your hair into three sections and pin it up. The top section, the middle from ear to ear around the back of your head, and leave the bottom section down. Divide that into 2 inch sections. Put some gel on it and braid it. You don't have to rubber band it, the gel will hold it. Rub the braid with more gel. Do that to all the hair in the bottom section. Take down the middle section and do it the exact same way. Then the top section. Rub the hair with gel, braid it, then rub more gel on it. Gather up all the braids and pin them up in the top back of your head and take a scarf and tie your head up in it. Do all this right before bed. I take a regular scarf, fold it in a triangle, fold the tip of the triangle down and put the long side on the bottom in the back and tie the ends in front above my forehead, like I Love Lucy. When you wake up in the morning they will will be dry and you just take them down and use the end of one of the teasing combs with the metal pick at the ends to smooth it. Voila! A curly perm. It will last all day!

Note: if you make the braids too small, it can just look like frizz, rather than defined curls (I know this from experience)
