The death no one cares about -
http://articles.philly.com/2014-04-11/n ... UDKtmmm.01

Christina Sankey's story received almost no media attention. She was a profoundly autistic adult woman who died last month. Christina was last seen alive at a Macy's department store under the care of her state-paid caretaker on March 6, 2014. She became separated from her caretaker and her body was found the following day, 5 miles away.

I worry on a daily basis about deaths that nobody cares about. Doesn't have to be an autistic person, of course, but it can be. Sometimes involving wrongful actions of people, which will go unpunished. Sometimes it just involves odd circumstances and it leaves me thinking, this will all just be forgotten soon, how sad. Nobody will ever think about it again except immediate family of the victim.

the late great folk singer phil ochs sang about it in his 1967 album "pleasures of the harbor" in a song called "outside of a small circle of friends." -

Oh look outside the window, there's a woman being grabbed
They've dragged her to the bushes and now she's being stabbed
Maybe we should call the cops and try to stop the pain
But Monopoly is so much fun, I'd hate to blow the game
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends

Riding down the highway, yes, my back is getting stiff
Thirteen cars are piled up, they're hanging on a cliff.
Maybe we should pull them back with our towing chain
But we gotta move and we might get sued and it looks like it's gonna rain
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends.

Sweating in the ghetto with the (colored/Panthers) and the poor
The rats have joined the babies who are sleeping on the floor
Now wouldn't it be a riot if they really blew their tops?
But they got too much already and besides we got the cops
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends.

Oh there's a dirty paper using sex to make a sale
The Supreme Court was so upset, they sent him off to jail.
Maybe we should help the fiend and take away his fine. (*)
But we're busy reading Playboy and the Sunday New York Times
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends

Smoking marihuana is more fun than drinking beer,
But a friend of ours was captured and they gave him thirty years
Maybe we should raise our voices, ask somebody why
But demonstrations are a drag, besides we're much too high
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends

For what it's worth, she's cared about here. Too bad it took her death for her to be noticed.

All lives are worth the same to me. No-one should be treated like this. No-one deserves to be forgotten or ignored.

How can a 'caretaker' leave the store, go back to the home of the client, or her own place of employment without the client?

Sorry if this offends, but my impression of Philadelphia is that it is a dangerous city indeed.

That's the million dollar question the police ought to be asking.

No one said she did. I get the impression that the client was neglected for long enough to wander out of sight, and then she was gone. The caretaker could have been arguing with her boyfriend on the phone for five minutes before she noticed that the client was missing.
