So post your examples of "popular music" artists (electronic rock etc) who break boundaries. By popular artists I mean those who produce music which doesnt fall within the classical or jazz tradition
. The idea is to find examples of "genre music" which is usurping the space reserved for classical and jazz. That is this thread should be a showcase for indie/metal/dubstep/garage/prog/krautrock/psychedelic/hiphop etc which shows evidence of higher musical principles or which experiments with structure rhythm harmony etc

Avant-garde/progressive/experimental music that breaks boundaries....hmm. Also you put a bit of an oxymoron in your post...it's hard to find popular music by popular artists that is also OBSCURE.
I don't endorse this clip, but it seems to be exactly what you're asking for:

popular music is a catch all term for music which falls outside the bracket of "intellectual music" (jazz classical) its a sorry term with sorrier connotations awesome post btw

I thought this post was about avant-garde classical music... I love it oh, well
don't understand the point of the topic though. why does it have to be obscure?
Ah the point is to find obscure work within the genres of rock soul electronic music etc which experiments with style form harmony rhythm context etc. It doesnt have to be obscure though. Grizzly bear are far from obscure for instance
I can't speak to it's Higher Principles or anything like that -- I'm not a very good musician -- but I really like anything by Steven Wilson and his various bands. It's prog, right?
