It's the end of May and the summer is almost here. It's getting really warm over here and I hate it. I feel so bad for hating it but I really find it difficult to handle. There are two reasons for me disliking the summer (well, I don't actually dislike the summer but I dislike the heat):

1. More people are out, which makes both my anxiety and my sensitivity to stimuli worse.

2. Just like the fact that more people are out during the summer make things worse, heat adds to me feeling overloaded as well. A lot of the time I can't really handle stimuli (especially sounds and people etc) all that well and it becomes even worse when it's warm outside.

I sort of get jealous of other people because they're happy the summer's finally here. They're BBQ-ing, enjoying the sun, they don't mind walking around in light summer clothes and they really seem to have a good time. If I had the city all to myself I think I'd enjoy the weather because then I wouldn't have to worry about people and stimuli. Deep down I really like the sun and the summer but all the social anxiety and the all the sensory issues are really quite overwhelming and I just feel like isolating myself.

Anyone else going through things like this during the summer? How do you deal with it?

the first days of spring and summer tend to get me down due to all the couples walking hand in hand. also I hate the bugs and the sweating in the heat. I deal with it by staying indoors most of the time.

I'm not a fan of summer at all. I used to live on the US west coast and it was extremely hot and dry. Now, I'm on the east coast where it's hot and humid. I hate hate hate the feeling that I'm cooking inside or that I'm sticky wet and profusely sweating by doing absolutely nothing except for being outside. I usually turn on the AC and set it to 65 and just stay indoors until the evening. I look forward to fall every year for that burst of fresh crisp air to arrive. I used to think I was very odd because of these feelings but now that I know it's very common for those on the spectrum I'm not so upset that I'm so different.

No, I welcome the warmth since I'm cold almost all of the time, but I do have a problem with increased sunlight. I get more migraines and fatigue in late spring and summer.

I have to wear a special pair of tinted raybans all summer long outdoors.

During the Summer, unless I am going to a nature location with no people I don't like to go outside into the bright sunlight. If I have to be in the city it's too much for me. I have to wear sunglasses. The heat and the brightness of everything is a lot to take in all at once. At night it's easier for me to focus on one thing at a time, rather than everything surging into my brain/eyeballs.

Oh yes, that horrible bright light really fry your brain! I'm just about to get new glasses that will turn into sunglasses when the uv light strikes and I think it will be the best investment ever.

Also, there is more body odor afoot.

I can relate on both points.

I find it difficult having more people around. I also dislike the heat, bright light, the way things seem to smell different, and probably other things but can't remember right now. Was just thinking about this, glad (although not glad that others are not enjoying certain parts of the year) that someone brought it up. :)

You can put the cheese on your summer bbq.

I especially hate the smell of a random summer rain (oregon) on the hot pavement. When it's hot out and has rained it makes me feel even more sweaty.

when it's humid out [typical for south Puget sound in the summer] my sweat can't evaporate so it just sticks and stinks.
