I love it!

I'm interested in all time periods, but I'm particularly fascinated by the following:

- Hellenistic period ( The Silk Road, The Royal Library of Alexandria, and more. This will be briefly discussed on tomorrow's episode of Cosmos!)

- Ancient Middle East & Asia

- Prehistory (the time periods that are missing from the history books that we are still struggling to piece together)

I am interested in the American Civil War. I'm fluent in 4 campaigns:
1. Overland - Lee vs Grant
2. Richmond-Petersburg (aka Siege of Petersburg)
3. Bermuda Hundred - Beauregard vs Butler
4. Appomattox - Lee's Retreat

World War One (aka WWI, The Great War, The War To End All Wars):
1. Second Ypres
2. Somme battle - 1 July 1916 at Zero Hour/15 September 1916 - day of the use of the tank via the British
3. Gallipoli Campaign - Landing at ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine, The Nek.

U.S. History was my favorite subject in High School. I like learning about the Old West, The Civil War, and both World Wars.

I've lately become interested in England's Tudor Dynasty: King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I.

Oh yes, and here is a quote as to (partly) why:
"If anyone looks down on others and is drunk on self knowledge let him turn his gaze upwards to ages past; he will pul his horns in then, discovering many thousands of minds which will trample him underfoot." [ - Michel De Montaigne ]
Favorites - right now - ( changes and fluctuates) are Greece, the Renaissance, and Lewis and Clark. I'm re-reading 'Over the edge of the world', about Magellan's amazing journey, and 'Michel De Montaigne The Complete Essays'. This is slow but fun because it leads to all sorts of back-up reading here and there.

When I took World Civilizations I and II last year, the topics I found the most interesting were ancient civilizations and empires such as India, the Middle East, Egypt, and Greece; the post-Roman Byzantine empire; the age of European exploration and pre-Columbian Meso/South American civilizations; the Trans-Atlantic slave trade; 19th century imperialism and how that institution factored into World Wars I and II; and World War II. Can I just say I enjoyed pretty much the entire dual course?

Other topics I like to read about are African-American history and the Civil Rights Movement, the history of feminism and gay rights, and general 20th century American society.
