I want TV and radio stations to have local ownership again. On a certain Facebook group for all the old guys who were involved in the radio business in my local area, I got sad looking back at all the pictures when radio and TV was live, local, and local-owned. Today, radio is out of taste and monopolized. The television stations in my area, all 5 network affiliates are controlled by 2 companies. I sound very old, but I'm actually 22. Local ownership of TV ended in 1998 when the corporates came in and took our ABC affiliate. I am too young to remember that but I wish I could've seen it. What do you think will happen to local television and radio stations? Are they killing themselves?

just about the only "local" broadcasting now is via student radio stations and low-powered radio stations in general. everything else is corporate.

I pretty much only watch shows available online, such as the Atheist Experience. Old media is virtually wall to wall advertising and dis-info. When people around me insist on watching it, it destroys my concentration and negatively affects my quality of life. The corporate media cacophony is strategically designed to kill independent thought. Anyone concerned about their mental well being and rational self-determination should throw their sets in the trash.

Even the ABC, the Australian public broadcaster, after two decades of purges and infiltration by members of the Murdochracy and right wing think tanks has zero truth value anymore. It only works, along with the rest of the mainstream media, to degrade the species.

living without high-speed internet, over the air broadcasting is the only thing available. that and good old-fashioned newspapers.
