What things can I do to get back into the Cockney Spirit? I've seemed to intensify over the past month, or the last four weeks. By intensify, I mean to become hard core. What things do I need to do, in order to really get back into the Cockney Spirit? I need some general answers. I want you to keep it clean.

If you mean you're happier (I don't see how you could know what the 'Cockney spirit' is without actually going there at that specific place and time) I wouldn't know as I don't know you.

Tequila has a point. My "accent" never fits in anywhere. To many Aussies I sound british. To the british I sound Aussie. I always hated my voice. About 20 years ago someone told me it is how it is. "Get used to it", I think that was the best advice I ever got.

About being cockney (I don't know because I have never been there), but I think of cockneys as the soap opera/tv show "The East Enders" that I hated.

Sorry if this is a bit blunt. I think you should be proud you are Canadian (there is lots to be proud about). Be interested in Routemasters and London and be content with your accent.

I hope you find greater happiness.

That's quite right. When I'm in a pub or any other noisy setting I always seem to be getting people asking me to speak up. My accent is OK and people understand it. It's only strange people like Yorkshiremen that comment on it (because I'm Lancashire, obviously). :)

A very depressing soap-opera. Not a good reflection of the people.

EastEnders is utter rubbish. Much of every single episode has the character's shouting, hurling insults and slapping each other. "You slappa!" is the height of sophistication on that show. Coronation Street is a little better but even so, Mancunians aren't really like that.

I agree ... life is just not like that (Eastenders) it's so depressing to watch (i dont watch it anymore) they should have a message on the screen throughout the program saying ...'This is total fiction ..... and utter rubbish', lol

I've read all of your responses and you all have really good answers. I'm also finding my own answers to my question, as well. I'm trading in my stiff gel and studded bracelet, for a newsboy cap and that Routemaster necklace that I've made out of a key lead and key chain, and I'm going to walk throgh the main local mall, in my town. I'll type another post in this thread, after my experiment, tomorow morning. :) I'll give you an update. Maybe if I dress pleasant and friendly, I'll feel pleasant and friendly.

I've washed that stuff out of my hair and picked up a Routemaster for the first day in a week, maybe I should say first night in a week. I've even changed my location back to what it was, before. I feel friendlier, already. :)

I feel softer and more loveable.

Maybe your just getting a little down and out from the winter blues. Not sure what your current weather is there, but think about getting out for a walk in the sunshine next time the sun peeks out. In the US we call it cabin fever. Or if you go to the dr they call it Seasonal Affective Disorder. Maybe take your Routemasters outside for a spin.
