So I am 20 and I want to know how can I live to be 100? I have always been interested in life in the future so I would like to know what are some ways I could get there? What do I need to do to live a long time?

Hi
First I would say should read the book Transcend: Nine Steps to Living Well Foreve. Depending on your urge to live to pass the 100 then you should also look into how he is living his life. You could also dontate or read about the Sens foundtation that is lead by Aubrey de Gray.
Here is 2 documentary from youtube:

And a lecture:

There is no guarantee.

You can make healthy lifestyle choices, but in the end, if you live to X age is largely based on genetics. You can avoid all the risks and do everything "right" and drop dead in your 40s.

People who live past 100 tend to have genetic predispositions for a long life.

Correct my if I am wrong. Most death up to 60 year of age is due to lifestile and from 60++ is due to genetic. Since he is around 20 now then he should focus on lifestile and hope that within 40 yes can fix his genes :)

There is no guarantee of any kind of how long you will live. The big question you might want to ask is, how much will it cost you to archive that goal and I don't mean the cost in dollars ether. How much are you willing to sacrifice for that goal. I would rather live a short and fulfilling life then to live a long and miserable one.

Philosophy 101.

Long and painful or short and blissful?

When you are young, you may opt for the long life of pain. As you age, you realize the wisdom of short with bliss.

Not everyone gets long and bliss.

There are health issues like smoking, your lifestyle, and diet. The rest is genitics. I read somewhere that your best guess is to look at the age of your grandmother on your mothers side?

There's no guarantee, as a few people said, but a few things will help.

I've heard Olive oil is very good for you, but be careful, as it has a LOT of calories. Don't smoke, and don't drink too much. Try to avoid very processed foods, or fast foods, and get plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit. Try to keep off of dangerous fad or yo-yo diets, and try to keep at a healthy BMI and weight. Try to exercise often, but don't overwork yourself, and keep stress to a minimum.

Pretty much everything we learn in SPHE in primary school. xD

BMI does not determine if someone is healthy or not.

There is an interesting documentary on nova about people who live over 100. They found out that most of them lived how they wanted. They also discovered that they primarily have a genitic family makup that somehow gave them larger than average white blood cells.

You can't guarantee living to be 100. My grandfather who died this year was 91. I'd say that's a pretty long time but he was predisposed to it as his brother also lived to be 91.

Interesting. If the OP was a girl too, it's even more understandable. Longevity is more fun for girls/women I think then for men. :D

I am kind of interested in longevity and aging too. But I myself wouldn't sacrifice a whole lot just to live so long. Not saying that I take for granted living a healthy lifestyle (I'm around your age too).

I'm personally like older women who naturally look younger, like Michelle Pfeiffer the movie actress or some more down-to-earth non-celebrity. :D

Am I right?

While there is no guarantee, there are things you can do to helps move the odds in your favour.

- be active, get exercise, don't sit for extended periods of time.
- eat healthy, lots of veggies, some fruit, some carbs, a bit of meat, and stay away from processed food
- take care of your health and see the doctor, dentist, optometrist, etc for your regular checkups
- get plenty of sleep so that you feel rested during the day not tired
- manage stress and take care of your mental health
- be happy and live life with meaning, be in the moment
- try to live life like everyday is your last, so when the day comes you'll know you've lived a good life

Best wishes for a long and happy life!

It's really for the most part dependent upon what technological advances happen between now and then. Without the help of technology it's basically down to luck (assuming of course that you avoid known life-shortening things like obesity, smoking etc), and the odds aren't good. And if you do get to 100 on luck, being 100 at the moment isn't really all that great - only with improvements to our ability to repair the body will it be possible to be active and healthy at 100.
