My wife (NT) suggested that I find friends who have Asperger's like myself. I have searched, in vain, for groups that are not attached to therapy sessions or the like. I am looking for more of a 'social club' where I can find friends that at least live in Colorado. I am starting here online as I find the interaction easier to control. Eventually, it would be nice to have a group get together, but obviously that is down the road. But for the moment, are there any members here that are from Colorado?

On an unrelated note, I think that we would appreciate WrongPlanet creating a main forum for/by location. Thoughts?

P.S.
If there is a more appropriate forum to have this post please let me know, thank you in advance.

Hi there,

There's somebody named VickyGleitz who lives in Colorado, and is very friendly to new posters.

She's also very much into autism advocacy.

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm not from Colorado, but am from the eastern half of Kansas. I, too, wish this site would let me know who-all is from MY geographic region (KS, OK, MO). I posted once, specifically trying to find other Kansans, but didn't have any luck. (Grant it, there are only about 3 mil. ppl In the entire state.). I may try again, though, because, like you, I feel it could, possibly, be very helpful to know about others -- like me -- in my area.

Good luck!

Hey man, I'm from Colorado, moving back next month. I know your post was from last year but wanted to reach out. What sort of activities did you have in mind?

First, this is a necrobump from almost a year ago, the OP only had 1 post and this was it. That being said, SW Colorado here-- screw the front range with all it's overpopulation, pollution, and sprawl. Real Coloradans don't look at the mountains, we live on them.

Oh I'd be living up there if I had any real money to my name. Hell, I will be once I can afford a vehicle big enough for a camper, bikes and skis. Living at the foothills doesn't mean I'm really at home here.

It's so much more peaceful here than the front range. Sure, there's small town BS that happens, but that's a hell of a lot better than all the sprawl and pollution in the front range, not to mention all the f'ing people there. 10 minute drive and I'm on BLM land. 5 minute hike and I don't have to see a single person, it's awesome.

Hey other people from Colorado! I live in SE Aurora near Buckley AFB, near SE corner of E-470. There are indeed adult Asperger's support groups here; there's one not too far away in Cherry Creek, but I personally am reluctant to join one because I hate support group-type settings. Also, some of them are headed up or hosted by psychiatrists or doctors, so that's a red flag to me. I'm thinking everyone sits in a circle and talks about their daily struggles or some such, while the therapist makes suggestions on how to cope in NT society. I might be wrong, but when I hear support group, that's what I think of. Like having Asperger's is comparable to being an alcoholic or something...I hate that. I don't have some terrible "problem" that needs to be "fixed" with group therapy. I just want to meet others who I don't have to be totally fake with!

If you ARE looking for a support group in Denver, here is a list of them with contacts:

https://autismbo.startlogic.com/denver.html

Sadly, there isn't really anything on Meetup.com although I was hoping there would be. Maybe I could start a social, non-therapy meet up group? Seriously considering it. I'd love to be able to just hang out with a group of AS people in a bar or cafe and geek out about whatever, without feeling like I have to put on my "normal person face" and dance the NT social dance.
