Mine would be either Zeta or Turn A. As for OVA's, I'd have to go with 08th MS Team or War in the Pocket.

My least favorite is Gundam Seed Destiny. I don't think I need to explain why.

So what are your favorites and least favorites?

I've only seen a couple of Gundam series, namely Wing, Seed (but not Seed Destiny), the original Mobile Suit Gundam, and Zeta. I've seen the first 12 episodes of ZZ, I had actually started to watch all Gundam series from the beginning, but real life stuff kept getting in the way, so my progress has been very intermittent. Right now, I'm actually watching Macross instead of Gundam, also a bit for the sake of variation.

Of the series I've seen, I have to say that I like the original MSG the best, with a special place in my heart for Wing because it was my gateway Gundam series. I think Zeta was great, and I can see why it's a favourite of a lot of people, but I felt more involved with the original White Base crew that had Fraw Bow, Kai, and Hayato.

I can see why you might like MSG more than Zeta. The White Base crew is easier to relate to and there are fewer annoying characters like teen Katz and Sarah. I also think Amuro is a slightly better protagonist than Kamille. However, I like Char better in Zeta. It was cool to see him with the good guys even though he had his own agenda. And my favorite villainess, Haman Karn, was introduced in Zeta, so there's that.

As for ZZ, it's a good show if you can make it through the first half. The second half is a lot less comedic and more of what you would expect from UC Gundam. It's just one of those shows that takes a while to get its footing.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think Zeta is phenomenal. It probably had more consistent emotional arcs for the different characters it introduced, especially with regard to Kamille and his relationships with other characters. I even felt for Katz and Sarah.
I think my only real gripe with Zeta's story is how they wrapped up Jerid's story. Quite an unceremonious ending to a character I was really getting invested in in the 2nd half of Zeta.

So, which Gundam series would you recommend to someone who's only seen a few, or someone who hasn't seen any at all? I hear good things about Turn A Gundam, but I wouldn't know about any other series beside the ones I've seen. How does G Gundam hold up?

Tomino was directly involved in Turn A, so you know it's good. He was actually coming out of a major depression during its development, so it's a lot more hopeful than Zeta or Victory.

Speaking of Victory, I would recommend it as well. To date, it features the youngest protagonist, but it also has the highest kill count of any Gundam series, if I remember right. It's definitely very dark.

If you're looking for something shorter, 08th MS Team is the way to go. It's the most realistic and has well developed characters.

As for G Gundam, it's good if you go into it knowing not to take it seriously. It's fun to watch and the characters and mechs are neat, but you're not going to get the same kind of emotional impact as a UC series.
