My family and I are planning to visit Rapid City and Custer, South Dakota - probably next June.
We're planning to visit Mt. Rushmore & Custer State Park. Considering driving to Yellowstone Park and the Cody area of Wyoming. We're an interracial family and we're worried if we are safe to drive from Custer, South Dakota to Cody Wyoming. Does anyone know if there are racial problems in these areas?
Any help or safety suggestions would be much appreciated - please be honest. Thanks :)

I wouldn't think they'd be racial problems.

I have an Afro-Caribbean wife--and I would go to these places with her in a heartbeat. Some of these places are very touristy. The more touristy the place, the less possibility of racial tensions. They're well-guarded as well--especially Mt Rushmore.

I have a distant relative who used to run a Custer museum.

I would think twice about going into one of those biker bars, though. It's not just racism: it's generalized assholeism
