I constantly fidget, move, twitch, have tics. I cannot stop moving most of the time; it feels like my body wants to jump out of my skin and dance madly around the room. When I try to force myself to sit still, I end up getting an extreme urge to tic, and I also get itches all over my body.

I will be explaining this to my psychiatrist when I see her next, but can anyone recommend any ways to manage this?

How long has it been this way?
Have you started on any new medications that could be causing this?

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, Steel Maiden.

I know you don't like hugs....how do you feel about cyber hugs?

How do you feel about taking baths? I find taking baths soothing.

I used to hate taking showers because of the way shower water splashes on my skin.

If it's something that just started, I'd say it was, possibly, an allergic reaction to a medication or food, or anxiety. If it's been going-on for as long as you can remember, I'd say it's Tourette's Syndrome (I have it). Regardless of what's causing it, I would suggest taking Benedryl. It's FABULOUS for anxiety, Tourette's, and of course, allergies.

I totally blame Tourettes because I want to tear my body apart sometimes when I am trying to force myself to stop. I don't think I can help though, but is this happening a lot recently or during periods throughout your life?

It's been going on for as long as I remember. Olanzapine calms down the psychosis but it doesn't calm down anything in addition to that unfortunately.

I'll ask my OT about Tourette's.

I know you don't like hugging. But you are so huggable.

I don't exactly know what meds are good for you, but meds never worked well on me, so maybe they will on you. If you get the urge, by all means, succumb to it. There's no point in putting your body through the pain. How much control do you have over it? It varies from person to person.

I didn't know I'm huggable.

If I going into the urges I look bizarre.

I think I'm becoming resistant to Olanzapine. I'm on 25mg.

I'm not sure, perhaps my psychologist could help.

I was hypomanic today. I had to take 1mg of Clonazepam. I'm going to type a letter to my psychiatrist. I'm seeing her on Tuesday. Olanzapine does nothing to me. I hope my psychiatrist will listen. The psychopharmacologist in me wants go on a second antipsychotic. Polypharmacy does work for some and it worked for me last time. Hopefully I won't end up in A&E, I feel so extremely low, like I'm crashing down, and embarrassed from my hypomanic behaviour today.

Okay, it's probably not going to end up on A&E, but keep in mind with the fact that meds don't work 100% of the time. I have had brief episodes of hypomania after I was taking 2 mg of Rispiradal a day. I guess I realized this later on and started flushing it down the toilet.

Thanks. I know drugs don't always work 100% but Olanzapine has been great for me before. Perhaps I've built up a (strange) tolerance to it.

I'm going to ask my psych tomorrow about this issue.

I think my dad and his girlfriend being around isn't helping. My dad is arrogant and they're both overloading me socially. I'm counting down the hours until they leave. I hate company.

Hi Steelmaiden,
I don't know what other meds you are on, but atypical antipsychotics (like Olanzapine) can cause the side effect Akathisia. It is described as an "inner restlessness", like the feeling that you describe of being restless and unable to be still. It might be worth looking into. Good luck and take care.

I know about akathisia, I got it badly with aripiprazole. However this feels different. With aripiprazole I felt like I had mini electric shocks going through my legs if I didn't move them. Now it's more of a sensory thing, like knickers not symmetrical, trousers itching, body itching, too hot, feel dirty and need to shower yet again etc.
