I am thinking of getting a kitten

I will be in Denver for another 2 months and I am starting to get a little lonely when I get back to my apartment. I have been wanting to get a Maine Coon Cat for awhile. Are there any good breeders in this area? I am concerned about hip dysplasia and heart issues.

I went onto petfinder.com and typed in cat, the breed, and denver, co. and came up with this list:

If you get a mixed breed Maine Coon there's a good chance you won't have those problems.

I don't think being lonely is the best reason for getting a cat, or any pet for that matter.

I already have 2 dogs, a cat and a wife back in CA. My cat is a wonderful beast but he is getting old.

If you can give it a good home, go for it.

I'd be inclined to get a puppy, myself - but then I'm more of a dog person anyway, so...

I have a Maine Coon. Greatest, biggest, fattest, laziest, most perfect cat in the entire world. But will you be able to take your cat with you? I just ask because you say you'll "be in Denver for another 2 months." If you're going to be moving a lot, it probably isn't best just to get a cat because you're lonely.

Well, why don't you wait until you get back to California? We moved across country with our cat, and he absolutely HATED IT. And are you driving? Flying? I would recommend waiting until you're back in California, but if you absolutely, positively have to have a kitten overnight----there are a few breeders in CO. A Google search will help, and newspapers sometime post ads. A kitten isn't nearly as much work as a puppy, so that's good.

My MIL got a "rescue" MC and he is a lifesaver, as her husband died last year. He's about three years old - plenty of life left in him and no middle-of-the-night pouncing as he was already grown. He still plays - just not nutty like a kitten. He's a good cat, though. They are a good breed for companion animals.

Kittens are easy to take care of, unlike puppies. And there is a benefit-they will love you and keep you company.
