Hello all,

I didn't really know where to place this topic. My problem is that I am sick of sitting alone in my house and doing nothing but hating my own life. I really want to undertake something, get a hobby, get into contact with others. The only problem is that I don't have a lot of money. If had enough money, I could follow a language course, or become a member of the bellydancing club, a theatre club, or join a choir. Because I go to college and I have to pay the rent of my room (about 300 euros every month) and studybooks and college costs (1800 a year) I just can't afford to join expensive clubs. I hate it.
So I was wondering, to others that have no to very little extra money to spend, what do you do as a hobby? Preferably a social hobby, where you get into contact with others.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe you could take a look at www.meetup.com and see if there are any groups in your area that you might want to join. I have just recently discovered that site and joined a group for hiking tours and a group for cycling tours. I have not yet attended any meetups but I plan to do so in the future. I think this is a nice way of finding people to share an activity with and it does not cost you any money.

A lot of large cities and other urban areas have board-game meet-ups where the games are provided. All you have to do is show up!

Volunteer.

Canteens
Charities
Fund-raising
State emergency service
Rural Fire Brigade
Animal Rescue
E-sheds
Book Clubs
Friends of the Library
Landcare groups
Marine rescue

Whatever you're into, there's not-for-profit groups crying out for help. They're usually very accepting and you get to help other people which may make you feel good as well. Who knows?

Not sure if it would work for you, but whenever I can I take my vintage car to local car shows. The great thing about it is that my car is not one commonly seen at shows so it give visitors something special and unique to look at and I have no problem talking and socializing with people about it since this is one thing I am comfortable talking with anyone about. The shows I go to are free to enter so it doesn't really cost me anything. My car and I even won a best in show the first night she was back on the road after being a parked project for about a year and a half. Maybe you can go to one if that is something your into.

It depends what I believe is that, not your hobbies can be a business or makes lots of money. It depends on how you put effort and making money from your hobby. Obviously that's not always a guarantee. My hobby is teaching I love teaching that doesn't make sense it gives me lots and lots money but I would say I am making money with happily working on my hobby. Everyone has something that they invest their spare time and money on. Some of these hobbies retain their value more than others, though.
