In Plato's Symposium Socrates states that love can not be beautiful because love is the pursuit of beauty. Your thoughts?

Love is illogical. This is one of the reasons a lot of aspies have trouble pursuing it.

I do not agree because I do not agree with Plato's concept of love.

Beauty is subjective. I cannot state anything on the beauty or lack thereof of love because it is an odd thing.

love is what society has to justify animal-like behaviors, like sex.

I think love should be a feeling you have. Maybe even a mental belief (trust, honesty, intelligence, etc). I dont think its illogical, I just think the 'existing game' is illogical. Its illogical for me to show my love by 'teasing' people with it.

at times i have a tendency to agree with schopenhauer's theory on love, pessimistic as it may be.

Love has many facets and love is always beautiful. There are of course many ways to love and the most pure form of love is: Unconditional Love which is not always easy especially in romantic love, in which there are usually always " conditions "

Love is beauty and to see beauty in those you love from your smiling child, closest friend and the one who makes your heart skip a beat is a beautiful gift returned

Yeah, sure. I can say that love is beautiful. Even if it is just a function.

Frankly, if the argument of that it's just a method to have us reproduce than you can't really say that anything is beautiful. Because everything either has a function, or is part of something else.

Many people might disagree with this, but I think unrequited love may be just about the most beautiful thing there is.

Why? I love when you cherish people and you think about the reasons why you love them. It gives you such great pleasure.

Even though I've been rejected by so many good people because they haven't been a good fit for me, I have many fond memories of them. They were are great people in their own way. It was all my fault that my friendship with them got stopped. I guess little things mean much more to some people than others.

In other words, the people who you deal with are trying to make love not beautiful, as great as they are. That is very sad, but true.
