Does anyone else feel this way? Was there a time in your life where you were the happiest and wish you could go back? The happiest times of my life were my childhood. When I was a kid life was more fun. I always had fun with my grandparents, my parents took me on a lot of vacations, I had no responsibility or worries, and so many of my greatest memories were when I was a kid. I was born in 1993, so a lot of the best times of my life were in the 90s. I loved the shows, such as Rugrats, Magic School Bus, Arthur, and many others. My life was so much better then than it is now. Now, three out of four of my grandparents are gone, my family and I have no money, I have to worry about studying and finding a career, and I have much more responsibility. I feel that life only gets harder and worse as we get older. As we grow up and get older, we have to go through so many changes and all of our family members get older and eventually die. I would give anything to go back to the 90s. I miss my grandparents and life was so much better back then. There will never be another time period in my life that was as great as the 90s. I would even take back the 2000s because even they were better than the decade we are in now.

Yes, even though my childhood had some really ugly difficulties for me, I do miss my childhood, for similar reasons you state. No responsibilities, the safety and security of a family even if it was in some ways a dysfunctional one. Life was a lot less complicated.

I would never take back the 2000's even if I could. Darkest, most horrible decade of my entire life. That was when I finally got diagnosed but not before nearly turning into a psychopath. I was kicked out of the home I had to live in because my "outbursts" had gotten to severe, I had horrible anxiety attacks, I couldn't sleep, I'd lost interest in nearly everything I enjoyed, hospitalized I don't know how many times, and as if I didn't need anything else to add to my daily constant state of anxiety, we had 9/11. I was in my 20's then, what is supposedly the best decade of your life and then it all goes downhill. The way some people talk about turning 40 make it sound like I should have killed myself while was still 39.

But when I was a kid back in the 80's I was usually happy because I was allowed to be myself. I would sometimes act odd or have unusual fears but adults thought that was part of me being an artist. My parents and teachers were very supportive of my drawing skills. Back then I didn't have to worry about boredom as long as I had some drawing paper and a pencil. I think 10 years old was the best age to be, because you're still a kid who can do "kid" things, like role-play with your dolls or go trick-or-treating on Halloween, but you're one of the "big" kids, so you have more freedom and control. Well, it was probably more so back then than it is now. But like most people I'm just seeing it through my nostalgia goggles. And I definitely don't miss school, even though I got good grades and it wasn't until junior high that everything went downhill.

The 90s were much better for me, but the 2000s weren't that bad for me either. Things didn't start getting bad until 2 years ago. I was 19, started college, and like you, started having horrible anxiety, ocd, and panic attacks. I wasn't diagnosed until the beginning of this year. I think life gets really hard for us aspies when we reach adulthood. That is when reality sinks in and it is when we are prone to the most anxiety.

The ghosts of the past keep me company. They rip and they tear, and in the center of it all, I can still find traces of happiness that will never again be exhumed. Dead and buried. "If I could go back" seems to be something everyone shares. What a shame this is what the human mind enjoys doing to itself.

What a shame.

Life certainly can be much tougher as we get older but it's no excuse to keep us from maintaining some of our childlike past. You know what is was like, and so you can recreate it, if you are really determined to do so.

In my opinion the good old days were just as bad, but in different ways, plus we tend to forget the bad things we went through years ago. We see our past through rose tinted spectacles.

Yeah, well...we only use rose colored glasses when the present is too bleak to live in.

I wish I could have 1998 to 2008 back. During this time, I had goals and dreams and was working hard towards them. I had a decently hot girlfriend during this time and I felt like a useful adult. The thing is, after going through the lowest point in my life, I have come to realize that I can still have hopes and dreams and work towards them, they just have to be different now because of my situation. Having a hot girlfriend isn't so much of a priority anymore, as is taking care of me is. That is the one thing I did not do very well during those "golden years", especially from 2004 on, was take care of myself and my mental health.

As the song goes:

"There never were no Good Old Days as such" (Ed Keupper - The way you make me feel)

I wish I could go back to being a kid or earlier in all honesty, with no stress and just being with my parents all day.
