I'm not trying to start any kind of fight here, so please no one take this as some kind of ''shot'' at board staff/owner/mods, etc.

But I'm actually kind of confused as to why WrongPlanet links to a chat that bears its name but that the staff and the board as a whole claim no responsibility for.

The staff don't know much at all about the chat and the moderators of the chat are not held accountable to anyone on the board, but it is linked to and promoted by the board- which gives the impression that it is held by board standards. Also that the experience in the chat will be similar to the board.

I actually assumed that my experience- which was that the chat was entirely different than the board- was fairly singular but I'm realizing it isnt and it actually seems that the connection between the chat and the board creates more confusion and problems than anything it might add.

I understand that I might just not see ''the big picture''. But I have also seen some [SOME] feedback really expressing frustration regarding the chat and then confusion about who can or can not do anything about problems in the chat. It seems to be its own separate entity but that only becomes clear later on.

Um. I don't know. Is this an appropriate inquiry even?

The only connection is that #wrongplanet (and Aspie Affection) are also owned by Alex and get promoted here on the primary site, WP - not unjustifiably, I think, since they all offer something different to the same wider audience.
Also, while this is primarily a support site, #wrongplanet is not, so it already runs on a very different basis - and IRC channels do tend to be somewhat fast, anarchic and "noisy" compared to forum life which can be a shock for the unwary.

I played around with IRC several years ago for a while but it was just too hectic and noisy for me - like being in a room packed with people talking at once. I have briefly looked at #wrongplanet and while it seems much less hectic and better managed than the other stuff I'd seen, trying to maintain focus on all that chatter really is a bit too much...
