This is a pretty weird question so I'm just going to explain what happened and ask it. So, I was at my uncle's wedding a few weeks ago and struck up a conversation with a very idiosyncratic member of the bride's family. I spent most of the wedding talking with either her or my gandmother's boyfriend. She had a lot of really interesting things to talk about though. She told me about how she lives in a compound that's 100% off the grid where her and her family grow all their own food. Shortly after the actual ceremony part of the wedding, she asked me a really weird question... She asked me if I knew what a "star seed" was. I told her that I was pretty sure that some people used that term to describe someone that they believe is an alien soul incarnated into a human body (I don't believe in these things, but a lot of folks around here do). Then, she went on to explain that she "sensed" that I was a star seed and then talked about that for a while 8O . It made me really uncomfortable...

I did a bit of research online and it turns out that there's a group of people that actually believe that people on the spectrum are... well, aliens here on a mission to "raise the consciousness of Earth" or something like that. So, my question is this: Has anyone ever actually believed you were something other than human? If so, what did they think you were & how did you handle the situation?

Here's a link to a blog post about the star seed thing if you're interested:Asperger's & Star Seeds

That is... interesting. I've never had this happen to me and I've never considered it to be a possibility (because it's not) myself.

The more I think about it, the more I think that something I'm doing must attract crazy people. The worst thing is that I don't know how to get away from a lot of those uncomfortable situations so I just let the person keep talking until somebody (usually my older sister) helps me by asking me to go do something with her or something similar happens and I can walk away without fear of seeming rude.

I wish I were not human because of this.

I've been in similar situations. Not usually quite to that level of weirdness. But about 4 months ago, I was at church, and I had never been to that particular building for church before. This guy walked up to me, probably in his 20s, and somehow he got on the topic of how "most people" or "normal people" care about trivial things like gossip, but that he didn't and instead thought about "important" things (which ranged from random observations about the way things work, to odd murder and violence fantasies about the pros and cons of different types of weapons). The way he was talking to me it kind of felt like he was saying that we, meaning him and I, are the same, and not like the others because "we" think about these things.

To be clear, I definitely do not have weird fantasies like that. I don't know where he was getting that idea seeing as he didn't even know me, but like you said I didn't really know what to say, so I continued to just nod and act like I totally agreed until I got a good chance to leave. I've had very similar situations, not often, but it does seem that I will occasionally attract some crazy person to me who thinks we are the same, or thinks I have some special power or something odd.

Sorry you had to find out this way, but sometimes it happens.
You are an alien.
All of on these boards are aliens.
We will try harder to keep you posted...

Isn't it ironic that 'they' (i.e. the NT majority) generally think of those with AS as being weird and to be avoided if possible, and yet we are not the ones who tend to believe in BS like this (aliens visiting the Earth). 'Star seed'? Now THAT is weird!

As obvious as it maybe that nobody here wants me to acknowledge it, I want to point out that Nikola Tesla claimed to be a recipient of extrasensory communiques, allegedly from E.Ts. decades before soft science fiction popularized this idea among the latent hippies of the seventies. Granted, Tesla was plenty batty, but the network which brought you this post relies squarely upon his principles. Science has a tendency towards backing us loons up.

Without sounding crazy (which might be difficult), actually Nikola Tesla was said to be an E.T. or 'incarnated' venetian soul. The planet venus 'apparently' has alien life inside. So called societies that are basically advanced human beings reside within the planet Venus and a lot of conspiracy minded folks think so too.

I've heard Aspergians like Daniel Tammet are said to be 'Star Seeds'. Basically they have a slither of what an E.T that is not earth bound can do in their mental worlds. E.Ts that can travel the stars and whatever unfactual offerings i've heard throughout my stint of internet readings.

Well, there are a lot of theories about autism and its origins - I suppose that one is more probable than believing its is caused by vaccines or mercury in fish or some other nonsensical theories out there.

Unilaterally stating extraterrestrials never interact with humans whatsoever is a lot like sitting at my desk presuming no one in this thread ever had an ant farm...

Um...I'm a chicken - not an alien.

Don't think there's any such thing as alien chickens.

There must be! What else would they joke about crossing the road?

I've not had anyone accuse me of being an alien, but I did have a temporary worker in my office insist that she recognized me from her coven.

Seems this topic is a little too uncomfortable for folk to tackle. So here goes...

While I haven't personally been asked if I'm extraterrestrial I seem to understand how the star seed concept (cult or philosophy depending on your stance) applies to autism.

Autism involves (often) visual and spatial thinking that transcends the limitations verbal communication applies to our cognitive processes. The star seeders are particularly enamored with autists who are largely non-verbal (particularly as children) but develop savant like abilities during this phase of their lives. The most impressive I've seen is architectural artist Stephen Wiltshire and his photographic memory for minute details of hundreds of buildings he views for just a few minutes from the sky.

While star seed folk may be waiting (in hope) for aliens living in their wooden shacks off the grid, I'll give them credit for recognizing the tremendous potential in all autistic folk. I think there is a lot of untapped talent in the autistic community. Silicon Valley is just the tip of the iceberg.
