I did a bit of research online and it turns out that there's a group of people that actually believe that people on the spectrum are... well, aliens here on a mission to "raise the consciousness of Earth" or something like that. So, my question is this: Has anyone ever actually believed you were something other than human? If so, what did they think you were & how did you handle the situation?
Seems this topic is a little too uncomfortable for folk to tackle. So here goes...
While I haven't personally been asked if I'm extraterrestrial I seem to understand how the star seed concept (cult or philosophy depending on your stance) applies to autism.
Autism involves (often) visual and spatial thinking that transcends the limitations verbal communication applies to our cognitive processes. The star seeders are particularly enamored with autists who are largely non-verbal (particularly as children) but develop savant like abilities during this phase of their lives. The most impressive I've seen is architectural artist Stephen Wiltshire and his photographic memory for minute details of hundreds of buildings he views for just a few minutes from the sky.
While star seed folk may be waiting (in hope) for aliens living in their wooden shacks off the grid, I'll give them credit for recognizing the tremendous potential in all autistic folk. I think there is a lot of untapped talent in the autistic community. Silicon Valley is just the tip of the iceberg.
