Who here has experienced delusional atmosphere?
I believe I did when I was 14. Some definitions are provided below:

This quotes Jaspers describing it, a classic psychopathologist:
https://www.academia.edu/1414263/Delusi ... _Unreality
When I was 14, before the delusions developed, everything felt strange, changed somehow, and there was a feeling of anticipation and anxiety that was almost palpable: I could almost taste it in my mouth, smell it in my nose. It felt like something big was about to happen. Things seemed to begin to revolve around me, like I was a character dropped into a video game and was the main character, while everyone else was just extras. Then when the sign came, a meteor, my delusional system was formed and crystallized.

Well I'm not sure of the definition of it, but I know the feeling you've described. I pretty much have it all the time now. But it started when I was 10 years old. I was told it was disassociation. Awful feeling, I hate it. I never became delusional though, just mentally displaced.

I've felt that around the time I fell into a psychotic depression & on & off before & after that some.

It's interesting that from what I've heard there are two types of false awakenings and one of them resembles this completely in a subjective way even though it's a different thing.
Take a look at type 2
I've never experienced the delusional atmosphere or a type 1 false awakening but I have had a type 2 false awakening. Apparently it's supposed to be subjectively similar.
Dissociation is part of delusional atmosphere, but I think it is a secondary process in delusional atmosphere. Basically, in delusional atmosphere you're getting the sense that many things that you would normally pay no mind to grab the attention and seem to relate to you in a way you cannot describe, a kind of inappropriate self-reference phenomenon, which I understand is absent in simple dissociation. This creates a kind of Truman Show effect and I think creates the sense of unreality that leads to the dissociation.
I, however, did not dislike the experience. There was a sense of excitement, as I believed something big was coming and I was going to be at the center of it. I loved the taste and the smell of the atmosphere and wanted more: I enjoyed the strangeness. It felt like I was going to find real meaning, I was getting ready to delve deep into the hidden layers of reality, I was the chosen one, and I was going to soon meet my glorious destiny! No one else mattered, as they were just ordinary people with ordinary lives--they were meant to be the fillers in my tale, just the extras you always gotta put in a movie to create a suspension of disbelief. I, I was the one picked by some mysterious being or force to ascend to the ultimate level; when my delusional system formed I resolved not to let this mysterious other down, to go back on my commitment, to fall back in with all the ordinary, simple people who could never attain the insight I attained!

Interesting. I have type 1 a lot, like with going to the bathroom. I believe I wake up and try to go to the bathroom, but nothing comes out which frustrates me. I then realize I need to wake up FOR REAL in order to use it. I'm glad I don't wet my bed when this happens.
I also at times get up falsely and believe that I have slept for days through many work shifts, resulting in multiple no-call no-shows endangering my job, or that I have done something terrible and irreversible. I am then relieved when I wake up for real.
I can't recall any type 2 false awakenings, but I did experience a delusional atmosphere at age 14 which led to severe psychosis.
