Ever since I was a kid I always did this thing where I would listen to certain sounds over and over again. I believe a large portion of this was due to the fact that I wasn't allowed to overtly physically stim when my family was around. Sure I could get away with some foot tapping or twirling my hair but rocking and spinning were out of the question. Anyway most of the time it was a scene from a movie, with or without dialogue, that I would place on repeat for almost an hour at a time. The way the person spoke or the simple sounds they made walking through a set would be the most soothing thing in the world. These days I've expanded to ASMR videos on YouTube where I will listen to certain portions repeatedly to help me calm down. From the point of an Aspie it seems like an auditory stimulation but every time I try to look it up on Google it comes up with more vocal stims like coughing or humming. Anyone else do this?

one of the "symptoms" they have on the check list of children with autism is repetitive sounds like pushing the same button on a toy over and over and over or listening to a particular song on repeat. I personally like one of my kids toys and will shake it and shake it till I feel content inside. The sound is soothing. I have lost the toy and cant find that sound anywhere else, it is distressing. I am also a fan of wave sounds and rain. I could listen to it all day on repeat. :)

I get TREMENDOUS comfort from the sound of the atlantic ocean waves crashing on the beach, that is a wonderful recording that relaxes and distracts one from one's various issues. I play it all day every day. it drowns out my yahoo neighbors and their noisy chain saws and barbaric yawp yelling/hollering, guns firing, dogs barking etc.

I play particular songs on repeat all day. I have a playlist on Spotify dedicated to exactly this and has only six songs. There is another that I cannot find on Spotify called "I Know, You Know" by a band called the Friendly Indians which is my favourite song (for anyone who doesn't know, it's the theme song of the TV show Psych) which I will play on YouTube on repeat for hours.
