How can i make my writing series become a reality

I don't know how i could say this, or how to, but what opportunities do I have as a writer to get my series animated?
I had recently tried to make it into a comic series, but the illustrator now wants me to pay because he had lost interest. I'm very stressed because i've been working on the series for 6 years, and i had just hired the illustrator last year. While i'm up to 26 chapters, he's only at a pitiful 3. Im very stressed and i dont know if im going on the right npath with this. I'm currently In college taking up graphic design and Illustration with a focus in Animation. If there's anyone that could support me, please reply. slowly beginning to snap
