Too Much Information, or, "What is it like to be Autistic?"

For friends, partners, parents, etc - we already know what it's like!

What is it like to be Autistic? Want to find out one of the ways Autism sets challenges to people with the condition?
National Autistic Society’s "Too Much Information" virtual reality tour will be at Norwich’s intu Chapelfield on 27th-28th August (Saturday & Sunday). Link: http://www.autism.org.uk/VR

"Following the phenomenal success of our TMI film, we've produced a 360 degree virtual reality version to help you to feel what it might be like to get too much ..."

"Those of you who have not seen the video it can be accessed via the same link. It’s a short video about a lad with autism going to a shopping Mall with his mum and the sensory overload he experiences. Very eye opening and just a snap idea of what it is like for many with autism."

(Via Autism Anglia)

Adult Autism Spectrum Cohort

This has probably been mentioned already, but following a heads-up given us by an NHS department in the region, we'd like to remind people about it.

It is a research project conducted by Newcastle University and is about engaging adults on the autism spectrum and their relatives in research. At least 1% of adults are on the autism spectrum.

If anyone with autism living in the Cambridge and Peterborough areas is interested in taking part, you can find out more at the NU website: https://research.ncl.ac.uk/adultautismspectrum/ or by watching this video:

Please contact Newcastle University directly if you wish to take part

Those of us on the spectrum ourselves know what it's like to be autistic, but do our NT friends or relatives have a hard time understanding? Do your support workers find it hard to understand what you are going through?

AEA has been informed of a blog written by an adult with AS which describes just that and feel it is important to help non-autistic people understand what many people with Autism experience on a daily basis. You might consider showing the link below to friends and family or sharing it on social media.

Please note that the opinions therein are the creator's own and do not necessarily represent those of AEA. There is also, in some places, strong language and discussion of difficult issues often disproportionately experienced by people with Autism.

Used stamps needed - can you help?

We are seeking used postage stamps, so if you are willing to cut used stamps from envelopes, we'd be very grateful to have them.

Ideally, leaving a border of around 6mm (1/4 inch) around them will help us, as we can then sell on to people such as stamp collectors.

All money raised goes to helping people affected by Asperger Syndrome.

You can drop them in at our Head Office in Norwich (Charing Cross Centre, 19 St John Maddermarket, NR2 1DN) or our charity shop at Beccles (1a Market Street, NR34 9AQ).
