and her hair looks horrible. I tell her everyday but she never fixes it :-(

Maybe it's ok as long as she does a good job with her clients' hair.

Fun fact: hairdressers don't cut and style their own hair, they get a colleague to do it.

Many sympathies to the OP's mum who has to face daily disparaging remarks about her appearance from her own son.
