I realize bills have to be paid for running a website such as this, but I am wondering how effective the ads really are on this website. The options on this poll refer to the ads appearing on this website.

I usually ignore the ads but one time on wrong planet there was an ad for a radio-controlled clock with weather forecast (pictures), temperature, heat index, air pressure and dew point - in color

That was a couple years ago and I just love it.

That sounds cool. I remember a time when I loved to monitor the weather with a forecast station I got as a gift.

fyi, if you use ad block, you're making it so the site can't pay the hosting bills. if enough people install ad block we'll have to shut down

I've never bought anything based off an internet ad, nor fallen for the gimmick about saving money/whatever in said ad.

I've grown to just ignore them, really, they serve me no purpose.. I just don't get how advertising is so lucrative on the internet. :?

Do the ads on here now have something to do with the fact that I just got a message from my Norton Virus protection saying it blocked an attack from altitudearena with a high security risk?

And now just got another one from sweetorange exploit kit. What's going on here?

I just read about sweet orange and found that Youtube had ads on their website that if clicked on would direct users to this malware attack. Is that here?

The hosting bills are paid by people simply viewing the ads, regardless of whether or not anyone clicks on them?

Aren't Aspies supposed to be indifferent to/uninterested in the whole business of advertising/materialism/commercialism/fashion, etc?

I know I am.

I get an uncomfortable feeling if I look at ads. I always view them in a sleazy light. And if they have sound, they startle me, bringing me physical pain. Ads agitate me.

And people actually click on ads?...Is that a thing?

I clicked on ads accidentally because they're too intrusive. I wouldn't use AdBlock if the ads weren't intrusive by popping up, flashing, having sound, & redirecting me because I accidentally click on it when moving my mouse.

I have never deliberately clicked on an ad on any site, or even looked at what it says. Once I hit one by accident. I thoroughly checked my computer afterwards. With AdBlock that'll never happen again. :D

For that matter, it's the same with ads in mags and papers. I just flip the page without seeing them. No idea what they're about, they're just rejected in my mind as "ads". I don't even notice them.
When TV commercials air, I turn the sound off and go fetch things or just relax my focus. (I have poor attention span).
