Denmark to claim slice of continental shelf in Arctic Ocean - Reuters link

Quote:
Denmark, along with Canada, Norway, Russia and the United States -- is eager to control as much Arctic territory as it can. The region contains 30 percent of the world's undiscovered natural gas and 15 percent of its oil, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Quote:
Denmark acknowledges that Norway's continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles overlaps the Danish claim. It may also overlap with claims by Canada, Russia and the United States.

I just wish there would be more "electric" stations so we could drive electric cars.

I think development of high speed public transportation is the way to go. Although people will always want the independence of their own vehicle.

The Danes make the biggest V8 street engines in the world. I think everyone should have one.

I like driving around in my own vehicle much better than taking public transportation.

I'm forced to take public transportation because there's no parking spaces in downtown NYC.

They should put that in Santa's sleigh.

Yeah, public transportation pretty much sucks these days. But if it was high speed you wouldn't be on for as long.

You can't take your stuff with you on public transport, only what you can carry. And another flaw: you need to get home before public transport stops, otherwise you are stuck outside until next day.

The good thing about NYC public transportation: it runs 24 hours a day.

Maybe megacities can afford that, but medium size cities can't. In the Netherlands there are no cities of over a million, and most people live in much smaller cities, so I don't think we'll ever have the 24 hour economy.
And I find public transportation too annoying anyway, whenever I can't avoid the train I'll take a bunch of beers with me to prevent the extreme boredom and annoyance. That's really the only upside I can think of, that you can still use public transport when you are too drunk to drive.

So that means Santa and Co. are Danish citizens. Will Christmas gifts have to go thru screening now. That'll take forever.

It's an improvement over not having documents at all, at least now he can travel freely around the European Union.

I though Santa's Finnish..?

There's no reason why you can't have public transportation running 24/7, you just have to ignore the unions and automate the systems...

I think automation is the key. And high speed trains.

A transportation network covering a city doesn't need to be high speed. Certainly no more than 80-100 km.p.h. I favour personal rapid transit systems, no more than 4-6 people in a cabin. Make it so people can call up and hire an entire one, same as a taxi.
