The Haunted.

Slow burn British horror film, where a young woman is hired to care for a dementia patient in an isolated country house, only to learn horrors from her own forgotten past.
Okay movie, but with some genuine scares.

Crime and Punishment (1935) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0026246/

Excellent! I highly recommend it!

Peter Lorre at his best. Everyone else was great, too.

I watched a movie last night that I first saw the weekend between the assassination of President Kennedy and his funeral. I think it was on Saturday night.

The movie was Sahara starring Humphrey Bogart. It was pretty much about the only non-news broadcast that entire weekend.

Killers of the Flower Moon. It was very long. I don't mind a long movie but I'm not convinced this warranted it. De Niro was good. Lily Gladstone was good. I wish more of the Osage was translated but I get the idea that it was meant to be alien to palefaces like me. It was okay. I can't imagine ever watching it again.

Last night I watched:

War of the Planets [1977]
<=>"Robot Terror from Space!"

/o\yawnRecommended—if you are trying to go to sleepyawn

I thought I stayed awake for the whole movie but there seemed to be some continuity errors that made me wonder if I had actually napped for part of the movie.

Then I read the following in IMDb:

Quote:
The pre-credits scene where Captain Hamilton is already in command of the MK-31 actually takes place twenty-five minutes into the original Italian cut of the movie. The actual first scene of the movie is the scene where Hamilton slaps Miller. Apparently, the American distributors wanted the movie to open with an exciting outer space scene, despite this blatantly obvious error in continuity.[

I have to wonder if they mangled it more than that. (There was one character that just appeared in the story and I recall nothing that would explain why he was so different from everyone else.)

The current IMDb rating for the movie might be slightly high. It's 2.9.

Last night we watched:

Watchmen [2009]
<=>"The existence of life is a highly overrated phenomenon."

-GREAT-GREAT M A G N I F I C E N T GREAT

I think this is an absolutely masterful film. One of the best.

I think its biggest problem is that it is almost three hours long. But it is worth it. Plan your viewing allowing for that length...in a room and on a screen suitable for beautiful visuals.

P.S. If I could become any fictional character, I would choose Dr. Manhattan from this film.
P.P.S. In reality, I am not much like him.

Experiment In Terror.

Black-and-white noir crime movie said to have inspired David Lynch and his film making. I can see it.
A young woman working at a bank is terrorized into stealing money by a vicious criminal, so she seeks the help of the FBI. Enjoyable, even if some instances of the movie strain credulity.

Horror In The High Desert.

Fake documentary/found footage horror film concerning the video blog left by a missing outdoorsman, the search for him by his sister, a private detective, the media, and law enforcement, and the mysterious cabin he discovers in the middle of nowhere.
Slow burn horror. The climax proves to be scary.

After such a rave review I couldn't resist - currently awaiting delivery of the 4k version. :thumright:
I'll report back...

I hope you like it.

Double-check the length of your copy of the movie...I just checked ours. It turns out we watched Watchmen [Ultimate Cut] which is 3'35" long—though any version should be excellent. The added footage in the longer versions doesn't change the story, just reinforces the feel of the movie.

And what we watched was 4K. I have a qualified opinion on that. You need a good-sized screen and good eyesight to really benefit from 4K. And while Watchmen is beautiful in 4K I didn't feel the need to put my glasses on. (Whereas for something like Coco or Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse I consider putting my glasses on so I get full benefit of the incredible detail in the pictures.)

Horror In The High Desert 2: Minerva.

Pseudo- documentary/found footage horror, sequel to the original movie.
Investigation reveals a connection to a missing outdoorsman after having done a video blog (original movie) to the disappearance of a young mother stranded on the highway, and the death of a young college student, all in the Nevada desert. While Minerva had been making a video of herself, someone else had been making a video of her.
Even better than the original.
