I haven't been this mad at a computer in I don't know how long. I got caught up in real life, needlework, Netflix and the holidays, plus I forgot all my passwords so I haven't been here. I got back into my email today and found my WP pw and got on the shiny new forum. Well let me tell you what! I was pleased for about three minutes!

I could deal with this just fine if it was a one time thing, or if it was something I did because of the laptop, which I admit I did once earlier because it's my daughter's laptop and I have on nails and I hit some key thats apparantly the automatic screw it all up key because it went back a page and lost what I was typing. OK, thats on me. I can deal with that. Then though, about three or four times, I've typed up a long and detailed post and when I hit submit it tells me log in. I was logged in but I did so again and then it went back to the reply page WITH ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES WORTH OF TYPING GONE!! !! !! !! !! I'm not yelling at anybody in particular, just yelling out of frustration with this stupid computer stuff. I know that when something is new it's going to mess up a lot. Thats all part of it. however, I already am having to deal with the change in how it looks, and I really dislike any change in my electronics so much that if given a choice I'd still use Windows 98 and AOL 7.0. But, time marches on and I have to deal. What I want to know is what made it happen, when is it going to be fixed, is there any way to prevent it (it did it once when I hit save instead of post too) and most of all, is my typing somewhere that I can go back and get it and post it? Cause that would make me happy if I could.

I have had the same problem. I think it's the new automatic logout from inactivity. It really sucks if you take a long time to write posts (like I do for a lot of them).

All I can suggest is to type your posts in a word processor and copy+paste them into the typing-space-thingy on WP.

1) Press Ctrl and press A to highlight all the text.

2) Then press Ctrl then C to copy it all.

3) To check it's been copied, do Ctrl then V to paste, and you see it's all been pasted in. So if accidently the window closes, just reply to a message again and do Ctrl V to paste.

4) To delete a whole message, do no. 1 then the Delete or Backspace buttons.

I don't have anything like that. I'm using my daughter's laptop. I know where Google Chrome is, thats it. I'm too old to figure out all this stuff now. I remember when I was the person in the house who knew all about the computer and the kids came to me with questions. That was also back when we had a VCR, which I could also easily use. Now I'm like my 4 year old grandbaby, I have to go get somebody else 25 or under to get up and come fix things when I hit the wrong button, the computer or the Playstation (which I only know the off and on switch for and how to load Netflix) has something that it absolutely has to ask me right that second like it's 8 years old or something, and I usually decide not to go through with any original intention I had if the computer second guesses me with that
ominous "Are you SURE you REALLY want to do this??" popup. If it wasn't slightly dangerous, the computer wouldn't care. Hal in that other Space Oddysey movie never worried about what the people were doing until it endangered him. So, I know thats not whats going on, but I do stop it. I could end up messing up one of the 14 kajillion apps she has on here. Thats almost as bad as when I'm sitting here minding my own business watching a tv series and Netflix sees me sitting there for so long but doesn't notice that I've done all my housework and I'm just waiting on the dryer so it decides to scold me and ask if I'm really still just sitting there watching Blue Bloods. I know what it's really for, but for some reason I always take a slight, brief offense at it rather than just get annoyed that technology made me move when I was comfortable.

I want my text back. Cyberspace must be somewhere. Send up the cybernauts on a recovery mission.

I'm only this ridiculous tonight because I'm forcing myself to stay up a few more hours to finally get my sleep back on schedule. Caffiene is no longer enough it seems. I'm losing the ability to miss a nights sleep. Damn this whole getting old thing!
