You might like the two following programs. GNU Image Manipulation Program or gimp does most of what photoshop does and it's free. And a program named blender does models, Animation etc. and free as well.

also check out Autodesk, they have free versions of their programs:

also try Inkscape, good for doing vector work (freeware)
Silo for doing 3d stuff (they have a free version)

and Moho/Anime Studio for doing animations. It's not free, but maybe there are free similar products

anim8or does both of those, it can animate, models, images, i thing it does more than your blender, but that's neat too.
anim8or is much less complicated
i'm doing a project on it, i'll get some screenshots...

I've never heard of anim8or..Looks pretty neat though ^^

I am really into graphic design, I absolutely love it. Personally, I use Photoshop CS2, but I have previously used GIMP.

I am definitely going to check out anim8or, because if it is as good as you make it sound, I think I will have a blast :D

Well, technically blender can do far more than anim8or, but it is far more difficult to use. I'm pretty experienced in 3d animation (12 years or so) and blender is still pretty much a mystery for me, so that may give you an idea of how difficult it can be to use. I'm sure that anim8or is a better choice for a beginner. I'd be interested to see what you create with it.

Blender is great. I am 12 and I use it. The controls may seem hard at first, but once you get used to them, they are really effective and fast. It can do a lot of advanced things like taking custom bump-maps, ray-tracing, and particle effects, that anim8tor can't do. I recommend that you try Blender.

Try 3Ds Max, i can`t use it but if you learn it it gives you maybe the best results.
Search for 3Ds MAX on google and you`ll find a free 30-day trial of it

It’s great that you benefited from a 12 year old thread.

It goes to show...that “necroposting” can prove to be useful.
