I'm starting my volunteering tomorrow and all the anxiety is creeping back up to me all over again. Tips?

I recommend a big cup of extremely strong chamomile tea (available at any grocery) right before you leave the house. It won't make you feel drugged, but it will take the edge off your anxiety. You could put it in an insulated travel mug and take it with you, but it might make your breath smell like grass. :D

For me, the anticipatory anxiety a lot of the time seems way worse than whatever thing is triggering it so I just try to distract myself and keep my mind on other things until the time comes.

Blow off steam by doing something you enjoy.
Sex also help a lot if you're a guy...!

Stay away from anything with high caffeine levels, such as coffee, breakfast tea, etc...
Caffeine will make your anxiety so much worse...

This is kind of the same mental approach I take, too.

So true. In the few days lead up to something I'm nervous about I get so anxious and then the day before I just feel dead calm and sort of happy because know that in only one more day it will be over and then the next day when it happens I find that it actually isn't that bad.

Be sure to tell us how it went.

I'm glad to hear it went well! Even though I'm a bit late to join the discussion, I'd like to add my two cents; someone once said that nothing is ever as bad as we think it's going to be. So when I feel anxiety about a situation, I try not to think about it at all beforehand.
