It has occurred me that since the turn of the century, there is just too much vitriol in the American political climate. Up until sometime in the 1990s, it used to be that both parties would work for the betterment of the people of the country.

Unfortunately, it seems like that both parties want to undermine each other's efforts, or even fight between parties or within their own. What happened? It's just so sad and sickening that there is so much discord and vitriol in the political climate.

“They say the definition of insanity is repeating the same action, and expecting a different result." - Sadly, while I have voted in every election since 2008 (when I was first eligible) this is what the elections come to; a war of the words.

What are we to do?

I really believe politics goes in cycles.

If you look back at the early 1800's, the "vitriol" was definitely much worse than it is today. It was pretty bad, actually, until after the presidency of Lincoln.

We had two world wars--so we needed to be united. Of course there was political discord then--but not as bad as in other times.
The 1960s and 1970s were pretty "vitriolic" as well. There was a sense amongst some that there might be a revolution.

The 1980s were calmer. People seemed to respond to the "Great Communicator," as Reagan was called. Others called him such names as moronic.

During the mid-late 1990s, many people didn't care much for Bill Clinton--so they bought out certain scandalous things. He was impeached, but acquitted.

Perhaps, 9/11 bought out much of the present-day vitriol.

I personally don't take politics seriously anymore. Politics used to be an all encompassing special interest for me; particularly after the Iraq war in the early 90's, and 9/11 to 24/7 new hours sensationalism, until politics becomes a soap opera-like atmosphere that truly does fall into predictable cycles.

I'll catch an Internet thread here, now and then, and mentally note a couple of salient things on the news if it's on at the restaurants where my wife and I eat or the military gym where I work-out; but other than that; I vote and get informed when I vote, and that's enough politics for me to take seriously, as I change what i can, and accept what i cannot.

And politics other than voting, is well beyond my control. And on top of that change starts with 'us' being the change we want to see; so I focus on what I do, instead of worrying about what other folks do or do not do; that I have no control over, other than voting.

We live in a society where those in power are extremely selfish; and in a way that's a good thing, as they are going to do everything they can to retain that power, which is what it takes at times, for a country to survive, overall;

AS this country continues to do well enough for me; but I easily admit, not well enough for many other folks; and that is where being the change one wants to see is the start of real change, as real change starts with passion of heart and soul, expressed as spirit to inspire change of heart,

RATHER than becoming

just another part of discord;

that truly is the black hole sun of hate..:)

And yes, we all can be part of some kind of positive
personal effort, instead of the dark ways of negativity of hate..:)

There is a discord. All polls say us that opinion of GOP and Dems on each other drops lower every month, positinos are much more radical than in 1980's and at the same time society itself beliefs politiclans less and less.

The latter is not a special American factor, in almost each "First-world country" (e.g. well-developed democracy of western style) political parties, presidents and government officials are the least trusted officials. Who do then people trust? Army, police, NGOs, charities, universities. In Spain for example there is an interesting point when 25% trust the king, but 94% trust Guardia Civil, unit with both police and paramilitary functions.

I think "we" are the problem, the politics are reflective of us. "We" decided to give cable news, talk radio, vitriolic blogs great ratings. Negative advertising works, if one day it stopped working, shortly thereafter the amount of negative advertising would drop quickly.

Well, if more citizens actually got their hands dirty and did some groundwork for the causes they believed in, then perhaps the politicians would notice that there actually is work that needs to be done. Too many people engage in armchair politic thinking, so that is the mindset that the political parties are catering to. The fault is on all of us,

If thier constituents scream loudly enough and persistently enough for something to be done it'll be done whether it's right or wrong. The one thing any politician wants more than anything is to keep thier office.

So it was much worse in the early days of the country...... makes me kind of relieved, but rather worried about the future at the same time.

Quoted for TRUTH:

'Politics has always been politics--since the days of Homo Habilis".

Good point.

Truly it comes down to neurochemistry and the neuro-chemicals, neuro-hormones, and associated sensitivity of neurological receptors that lead human beings to taking risks and being open minded verses caution and closed mindedness.

Truly it's just a generality; but never the less,

A truth of classically evolved human beings that is not going to change anytime, close to soon.

And it also is why, at least in part, I do not have to 'worry' about conservative homophobes perusing my 'STRAIGHT' MALE ALL NEW RENAISSANCE STYLE 'SELFIE' STYLE NUDE ART, AS nicely illustrated in the video, per the statue of the REAL 'OLD DAVID' THAT CONSERVATIVE HOMOPHOBES CAN BE TERRIFIED to look at cause it's got that penis thingy, fully displayed.

And also interestingly, the same 'type' of conservative folks are responsible for chiseling OFF THE PENISES from great works of MALE Nude Renaissance ART, and other age arts ranging from Apollo to MIN.

Yes, MIN, IS THE FIRST EGYPTIAN GOD; BUT one will rarely hear OR see anything of MIN, even in today's somewhat accepting culture of the statue of David, cause MIN goes one step further with a 'stiff' one, as well.

I am extremely open minded; AND that's a nice place to be; AS I am totally accepting of the differences of other folks.

But seriously; some folks just can't help it as it is not only in their jeans; it's in their genes..;)

Politics IS HUMAN NATURE; LITERALLY HUMAN NATURE;

AS EVOLVED PER THE OPEN MINDED FOLKS

VERSES THE CLOSED MINDED FOLKS;

per the blue pill vs the red pill.

I do the GREEN PILL;

TOLERANCE AND ACCEPTANCE FOR ALL.

A RARE PILL; YES; BUT NEVER THE LESS;

A REAL PILL FOR ME; ALL THE SAME.

AND IT MAKES ME GIGGLE TO THINK

about all the so-called RED STATE CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN MEN

RANGING FROM YOUNG MEN TO OLD MEN WHO ARE AFRAID OF PENISES;

AS THEY ARE TOO CLOSED MINDED TO UNDERSTAND, it's just another tool

of the human body FOR PEE AND PLEASURE..;)

And yes, 'they' are the same ones who tell me as a young man in middle school

that only 'GAYS' smile and laugh, although they use the F word and not FRED;

to relay that message to me in no uncertain terms.

JUST THE FACT THAT THEY KNOW I DO NUDE ART THAT THEIR WIVES CAN GET ACCESS TO,
who (the wives) are not likely nearly as afraid of Penises and smiling laughing boys,
CAN enjoy AS ART; OR WHATEVER; can make 'them' (THE MEN) wimper;
and perhaps pee in their pants;
Just a little bit; I guess..;)

But anyway, I stick my 'tongue'
STRAIGHT OUT AT THEM;
IF THEY DARE TO LOOK,

LIKE MIN..;)

AND ANY WAY; YES, it's the YIN AND YANG OF LIFE;

I just happen to be balanced with the best of worlds as BOTH..;)

AND WHEN they make fun of my ballet style of dance; always behind my back; now, I might add; that I am approaching 240LBS now of 930LBS leg pressing powers; I just show them the YOUTUBE video of that; in case they DOUBT MY STRENGH..;)

And if my iPhone5S is not handy when dancing at the CLUB; I JUST DO A FEW LIGHTENING QUICK
MARTIAL ARTS KICKS AT ANY TARGET, IN A 360 DEGREE RANGE repeatedly
in never the same lightening quick ALL INNATE INSTINCTUAL
INTUITIVE way; to their jaws dropped low..;)

AND TRULY THE IRONY IS DELICIOUS AND

an incredible positive muse for my increasing human potential.

Yes, I thrive off their closed mindedness as a kind of

STRENGTH OF POWER IN HUMAN POTENTIAL FOR ME;
FROM THE DARK OF THEIR CLOSED MINDEDNESS;

I CANNOT LOSE.

ALL THEY CAN DO IS LOSE.

SO YES; CONSERVATIVES ARE NECESSARY

FOR US LIBERALS TO WIN AT THE GAME OF LIFE

WITH EASE AND UNENDING PLEASURE

AT THE END OF THE DAY IN NOW.

AND HELL yes; of course
that's why they
(CONSERVATIVES BACK THEN)
censor out the gnostic
gospel of Thomas from
THE NEW TESTAMENT,
CAUSE JESUS PROMOTES
HUMAN STRIPPING AND NAKEDNESS TOO;
PARTICULARLY FOR MALES as THAT IS THE MAIN
SPIRITUAL GENDER TARGET AUDIENCE, BACK
THEN..(;

JUST LIKE 'KING DAVID' AND ALL THE OTHER LIBERAL PROPHETS OF THE AGES.

Patriarchy has been in control per conservatism for around 12,000 years; but finally the
'STRIPPER JESUS' DREAMS OF HUMAN LIBERAL FREEDOMS FROM PORNOGRAPHY TO THE
CHOICE OF NOT GETTING MARRIED, AND EVEN GAY FOLKS GETTING MARRIED IF THEY WANT
TO IS FINALLY COMING TRUE; AS IN REALITY, AS REPORTED IN THE GNOSTIC GOSPEL OF THOMAS.
Jesus is one SUPER LIBERAL DUDE.

SO IN METAPHOR, the gnostic gospel of THOMAS
AND JESUS, IS BEING RESURRECTED FOR THE
'SECOND COMING' IN MORE WAYS THAN

one; IN NOW, per politics;
religion; and most importantly
Reproductive Freedoms and
FREER LUSTY; YES FREEST LUSTY
SEXUAL EXPRESSION TO INCREASE
HUMAN CREATIVITY in all things
as well as productivity too;
as 'JESUS' SCIENCE SHOWS
is true now, too..:)

Christian CONSERVATIVE MALES cannot possibly
know OR FEEL THE REAL Jesus; as they are
not the 'chosen ones' OF
GENES, AND
ARE AFRAID TO GO
WITHOUT
JEANS..;)

AND truly that's what the SACRED TEXT SAYS,
IN A 'NUT SHELL' IN VERSE 37 OF THE Gnostic
Gospel of Thomas, while most conservative
'CHRISTIAN' MALES; AND yes, some females
too, of course, SHUDDER AT EVEN THE
THOUGHT OF THE SIGHT OR EXPERIENCE
OF THAT TRUTH AND LIGHT IN the life
of REAL JESUS TOTALLY EXPOSED
TO THE SUN
ABOVE
AS
FREE.

They WILL FRIGGING 'CRUCIFY'
'HIM',
IF THEY CAN TODAY
FOR GETTING ALL
NAKED LIKE
THAT
IN
PUBLIC; BUT IT'S AGAINST
THE LAW NOW; SO 'HE' CAN
'COME AGAIN', AND LIVE
AND FINALLY
BE FREE
FOR
NOW;
AT LEAST ON
THE INTERNET
ON ADULT BLOGGER
PLATFORMS, appropriately
hidden from 'minors'.

AND TO BE CLEAR,
'HE' IS A METAPHOR
FOR ANYONE TO
BECOME A
FREE-SPIRITED
'CHRIST', IF,
'THEY'
ARE
THE
'CHOSEN
ONES'
OF
GENES
WITHOUT
JEANS..:)

And I know all that doesn't seem fair,
for around 50 Percent of the population
or so, to miss out ON ALL OF THAT 'CHRIST
STUFF'; BUT if Karma and reincarnation is
REAL, PERHAPS THEY WILL GET THEIR
CHANCE; NEXT GO AROUND;
IF THEY THE 'PIPER',
THE 'PIPER'S'
DUES.

AND
IF
NOT;
GOD'S
NOT FAIR;
OH WELL;
WHAT CAN
ONE DO,
AS ThERE
IS NO ESCAPE
FROM
CONSERVATIVE
HELL OR THE GOD
OF NATURE AS IS;
but DEATH AND PERHAPS
NOT EVEN THEN PER THE
KARMA THINGY; AS INFINITY
AND FOREVER IS A MIGHTY LONG
TIME FOR tiny humans to make a
sure bet
on
THAT.

I'LL TAKE THE LIGHT PATH; THANKS;
OF LIBERAL OPEN MINDED LIFE;
AND meanwhile the dark
of conservative ways
will be the clouds
to rain my
JOY
IN
DARK
MUSE
AS
IS
FOR
NOW..:)
IN LiON
'HEArTED' WAYS..;)

http://www.sacred-texts.com/chr/thomas.htm

Quote:
37) His disciples said to him, "When will you be visible to us,
and when shall we behold you?"
He said, "When you strip naked without being ashamed, and
take your garments and put them under your feet like little
children and tread upon them, then you will see the child of the
Living, and you will not be afraid."

And for anyone who thinks THIS
IS not DIRECTLY ON TOPIC;

I 'JUST' PROVE, WITH SO-CALLED
SYSTEMIZING SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
THAT RELIGION AND POLITICS, PER
CONSERVATIVES AND LIBERALS,
ARE INSEPARABLE
FOR FULL MEANINGFUL
CRITICAL, AND SOMEWHAT
SATIRICAL METAPHORICAL
ASSESSMENT,
OF THE TOPIC
AT HAND, IN GENES
OR hmm, Jeans I guess..;)

Very little politics is about persuasion. Negative campaigning is effective, because people are very obsessed with personal life and image, rather then ability to get the job done. Other than that it is the constant soundbites, which is also effective, people repeat them if they had dreamt them up.

I dislike the vitriol too, but the electorate is complicit.

In the Eighteen Fifties the proper Victorian gentlemen who made up the U.S. Congress would NEVER say four letters words to each other the way that Dick Cheney did to Tom Daschel that day in the early 2000's.

But one U.S. senator of the 1850's took a cane, and beat another senator to death in the halls of Congress!

I would call that "discord"!

The beater was a southerner, and the victim was an northern abolitionist. And that was when the nation was spiraling into the Civil War.

As someone said above "discord" goes in cycles. And that was definitely a period of polarization.

The kind of person attracted to politics is driven by a thirst for power (even if the reason they want that power is so they can better society, they need to do anything it takes to get in a position where they have the power to make things better). Often moral compromises a politician makes are done under the rationalization that it's a necessary evil in order to get to the point where they can make a big difference. But by the time they get to that point in their career, they've done enough questionable things that it is now a habit.

I believe he survived.
