There's actually a bit of background on this one. I made a friend online a while back who I feel I've grown pretty close to. When we were talking about our interests, I mentioned to her that I was into blacksmithing. I don't have a whole lot of confidence in my appearance, but at her request I sent her a picture of myself holding a piece of rebar in the forge and another of myself beginning to shape the piece of rebar (which I started to make into some tongs but had to stop working on to do other things and still haven't got around to finishing, not that it's really important to this whole thing).

When I sent her the pictures, she sent me a picture of herself and she was honestly a lot younger and prettier than I'd imagined her (not that I'd expected her to be homely). I told her as much and asked her what she thought of me. She replied with a message that said "haha, you've got a sweet beard!" and then quickly followed up with a message that said "and I liked your shirt."

I don't know. I guess I'm just a bit self conscious. I'm not sure if she was just trying to think of something nice to say or not. So, that's where you guys come in. I'll show you the pictures I sent her and hopefully I can get some unbiased feedback.

You look perfectly normal, it can be as simple as that you are just not her type, that doesn't mean that you are ugly or anything else.

But I think you would look nicer without the beard, (I don't like beard, it hides the face) maybe that also threw her of?

I think you look pretty normal. I find the beard makes you look a bit 'viking-ish'. That's a question of personal taste of course. Only thing that might throw me off is that you make a pretty grim facial expression in both photos.

^^ For me that just look like a "I'm concentrating" facial expression :)

She sent two positive messages saying she liked your beard and your shirt; think of it as a good sign and take the rest slowly.

For what it's worth you have nothing to worry about with your appearance either, those pics make you look like an ordinary guy getting on with the job at hand.

One thing you should never do is ask women what they think of your looks. They will answer mysteriously as you have just put them on the spot. It will then feel awkward for both of you.

I would say you look quite handsome, but though I personally like the beard, and am prone to growing some interesting ones myself, most people are square and want everybody to look ordinary.
I would guess that beard would mainly attract the sort of girl who likes older axe murderer types.

You should also send a picture that shows your eyes, the most important thing that a girl wants to see.

At least she knows you have great taste in music.

Hmm its difficult to guess what she may have meant...either she was being genuine, but maybe felt a little akward so wasn't quite sure what to say....sometimes girls are nervous/shy about outright telling a guy he's attractive so might just blurt/type out something like that real quick. But it could also be what you suspect....It would be easier if people where more direct but alas they are not.

I personally like the beard and think it fits your face well....some people would not pull that off, but you don't appear to be one of them. I disagree about it attracting girls attracted to older axe murderer types, I really did not even know that was a 'type' girls ever sought out so that post doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

My two bits.

I'm st8 and male, btw.

Your beard looks good and it is distinctive and bad ass looking.
Your hair really suits you also.
Your face and your skin is above average and healthy looking.
Idk what "clutch" means. The shirt fits a bit loose.
You look focused and relaxed.

I think her comments were positive. Girls like a man who works physically and is strong.
