I'm interested to know if anybody else here has a good sense of hearing.

Mine has always been excellent (getting perfect scores in aural tests all the way through).

I'm wondering if this is related to asperges syndrome?

Thanks

i have an extrememly acute sense of hearing. ask the kids whispering at the back of my classes...!

i also have amazing peripheral vision, even though i'm short sighted, and a sense of smell like a bloodhound. i wonder if they're linked?

I can hear a faucet dripping from a small house away...

It's a little annoying actually... not very useful unless you're a spy...

Yes, I'd hazard to say my hearing is hypersensitive. Not exactly all that fun, considering I don't have the greatest noise filter.

It is useful for diagnosing my roommate's computer problems, though :) .

I have excellent hearing (though right now I need to get my inner ears cleaned out from two very recent bouts with the respiratory flu that clogged up my head/ears).

I have always been able to hear tv's through walls when they are just on but not when there is any volume-- meaning I can hear the tv waves. Can anyone else do this? I know codeman38 and I had once talked about this and he also has this ability. Can anyone else hear tv waves???

A home school aide working with me back in 1983 first noticed that I had very acute hearing. The story goes was that she was working with me one day when she noticed that my attention suddenly shifted elsewhere. Instead of trying to get me back on task, she tried to figure out what had caught my attention. Way off in the distance, she could hear the sound of a jet flying overhead, and I that's what I appeared to be attracted to. After she informed my mom of this, my mom observed me carefully and noticed that in general I was "very intune" with my surrounding environment, confirming my aide's original suspicions.

Are you talking about the squeal that the fly-back circuit makes when the TV is on?

I can hear this, but only if the room is rather quiet. High frequency sounds pervade everywhere. In January 1999, I did an experiment at home with my computer. I set up a software sinewave generator to put out a 16khz tone, I then cranked up the sound on my speakers all the way. As I walked through the house, the squeal could be heard everywhere, even in the basement.

And my parents did not hear it all.

I can pick out voices in choir and instruments in band. It helps to be able to hear that well. I've never heard tv waves. I sometimes eavesdrop on people, I've gotten very good at this. I think I'd make an awesome spy, if I had better balance. I also have a sensitive nose. I can smell tobacco at least 1/3 mile away. It's crazy! I'm also partial to the smell of honey and barbeque sauce.

Curious, this - I'd say I have pretty good hearing: certainly, I could always hear when my neighbours were making any kind of noise in my old flat in minute detail..... Not a problem I suffer anymore though in my new suburban, ABC1 wonderland :) However, I always have immense difficulties picking out the spoken word in all kinds of contexts - I often have to rewind DVDs to suss out what someone says, I struggle to understand song lyrics a lot, and I say "uh?" and "what?" an embarassing amount in conversation..... A curious and probably uniquely aspie dichotomy to be sure.

That's not "TV waves" you're hearing. It's the horizontal flyback transformer circuit (the one that pulls the electron beam back to the side of the CRT to start tracing the next scan line). It cycles at 15750 Hz on an NTSC television and is quite audible on older sets in particular. I'm so used to hearing that sound that I now have a slight case of tinnitus on that frequency.

I have (or at least had) quite sensitive hearing. I went for an audiogram once and eventually had to ask the doctor to turn off the lights because the ballast transformer in the ceiling was louder than the sound inside the headset....

Ah, good to know. My ears always perk up at that sound.

When I was younger, I couldn't listen very well (still don't) . People were on about me all the time about how I couldn't hear.

Mum sent me to an ear specialist, and the results were normal.

However later I realised that the reason why I couldn't hear other people was because I was too distracted by other noises.

I can hear non-audible noise extremely well, but when I try to hear someone at a small difference, it seems to get warped from other sounds.

I was often called Radar Ears when I was younger. I would say that I have acute hearing. If that means my hearing is sensitive. I hear things in my sleep alot too, but this is getting better as I get older and does not wake me up as much.

I do not like to have electrical equipment on while it is not being used due to the sound I hear emmitting from them.

I love the silence at night when I turn off my computer and I no longer can hear it.

I am very sensitive to high pithces. I often hear things that are not audible to those around me. My guess is that I hear EVERYTHING! Voices are wierd because I hear them but don't always know what is being said. Though if I hear it from a distance, I can usually repeat it.
Some people I have met speak in a tone that just sounds like a muffle. Others speak in pitches that sound like a squeal. Most though are easier than others thank goodness.
I hate hate hate it when people wisper in my ear!! !! !! !
I do NOT understand any of it and usually end up with an ear full of the other persons breath steam. And if I dare tell them I did not understand what they wispered, I get another earful of breath steam!
