Telling right from left.

Did it take you some time to, autromatically, tell right from left?
To this day I have to remember that I'm right-handed to, more or less, tell them.

I sometimes have to stop and think about which direction is which.

Yes, I still have problems with this.

I hate to admit it, but SAME HERE! Heck, I recently had to think about whether writing was upside down on something I read, EVEN though SUBCONCIOUSLY, I compensated and read it as if it was right side up!

Yeah, I know my right hand and my left hand, but not always right from left. So I'll use my hands to figure out right from left.

Nope. My wife couldn't tell port from starboard though, without writing them on her hands.

I have to point. For the love of God, don't tell me to go left or right when I'm driving!

I have always worn a ring on my left hand..before that I had to hold a pencil to be sure that was left.

No, I was the first one to grasp this concept in pre-school.

I had a really hard time learning right from left. I didn't really get the grasp of it until early/mid elementary school. I took dance lessons when I was younger, and boy did I have a hard time! The teacher would say walk left (or right) and I'd have to look at the other kids to tell what way I was supposed to go. The only way I learned on my own (this may be gross but oh well) is that I had a wart on my right thumb knuckle. So when the teacher said "right" I would rub that wart on my right hand and know I was supposed to move that way. Strangely, the wart went away after (it was pretty stubborn before that) after I had thouroughly learned my directions. Weird but true. To this day, I still sometimes rub my right thumb knuckle when I get confused about directions, but not as much as I used to.

I've never had a problem telling left from right.

never really had any problem, however i know loads of ppl who have problems with left and right, none, to my knowledge, have autism. playing rugby a lot i encountered a few ppl who even wrote L and R on their hands so they would know which way to pass

I write with my right hand, so I have a little patch of hard skin on my middle finger where I balance my pen. Therefore whenever I forget exactly which hand is which I can just rub my thumb against my finger and that sets me straight. Failing that I really like that writing L and R on their hands thing, I can just see someone running up the field and then stopping to check which hand is right. Seriously tho I always just thought they threw the ball to the guy next to them, maybe this explains why I was always so bad at sport. Is there really anything more to it?

Up until pretty recently (probably when I started driving, around 3 years ago), I always had to form the 'L' with my left hand to know, and I'd have to do it mentally if I was giving someone directions. I guess now it must be second nature since I don't have to think about it.
