Do you ever wonder about those WP members who rarely post about themselves or respond to others' posts? Who only ever seem to post in the games threads? Or, though a bit more scrutable, the ones who haunt PPR or maybe even L&D and rarely post directly about autism, ask for advice, or rant about anything other than L&D?

I just finished browsing the profile of a WP user who just joined this year, yet has already amassed over six thousand posts, apparently all in the games threads. No avatar. No intro post. No self-generated user info. Bland and inscrutable username.

Who are these people? What makes them tick?

ls this a duplicate thread? l think l saw the same one somewhere else.

Any way, l actually like it when a new member is very active and quickly goes past my post count. There have been times when a member almost looked like a robot generating many relevant impersonal posts. Maybe you could try responding to that member?

Maybe it's an autistic trait.

EDIT: Now l see this thread has been moved from another subforum to GAD. lt's not a duplicate. But why GAD? lt doesn't seem to be about autism although l made a lame attempt at making it somewhat relevant to autism.

I wonder more about posters like you because I see your posts a lot. Though, I never really look at the other forums.

So then I develop familiarity with your name and avatar and like reading your posts (even if I disagree or w/e) because I 'know' you.

It was moved on OP's request. It's about WP members, who largely are on the autism spectrum, so I think it's autism related.

Maybe their special interest is narrow enough to only encompass games and they don't want to talk about anything else? That would actually make sense, considering.

I've noticed this as well. There are some members who posts multiple times a day to the forum games section (which are generally one word replies)

I would imagine they want to be anonymous. I'm more confused by the people who are open about their identities.

I don't know why this is a surprise to anyone. (Sincerely) The forums do enact a "point based system" that gains certain "rewards" for the number of posts acquired. This is further reinforced by members congratulating, replying, and holding in higher esteem those with higher ranking in post counts no matter their content.

The fact that you have individuals who see it as a game and game the system (pun intended) especially in the gaming section seems like a natural consequence to having a post based point system. Being critical of their efforts to achieve something that is obviously important to them and causes no real harm seems overtaxed.

Just ignore them until they contribute something worth wild to respond to. They may be waiting till they reach "veteran" status to actually put themselves out there in hopes it gives them a buffer against criticism. Or just find it amusing and eventually will tire.

The bulk of my posts are probably in PPR, I make an effort to post in other sections and try to be more open about myself now but there was a time where I'd feel uncomfortable sharing and would only lurk. Even reading other people's problems were tough sometimes as it usually cut pretty close to home and at that I was more apt to hide away from my troubles. I always posted in PPR tho as it relates some pretty intense interests of mine, I enjoy the back and forth.

Their special interest is games I would assume.

I don't pay attention to post counts and do not look at post counts as some sort of competition. If a person has few posts it might mean they have "fit in" well enough to need to spend most of their dealing with job, family etc.

I post when a topic interests me and I feel I have something to add, confirm, or disagree with what has been said.

Most of these people have long surpassed the point of gaining veteran status. I don't think there's any reward for members who have that many posts; especially if they only post in the off the wall section. I certainly don't hold members with a incredibly high post-count in higher esteem than others here.

I only post on Topics when I feel I have something to actually say that I want out there. The Government is spying on US, probably still is, and is probably watching like a hawk for anything that looks remotely threatening to our "Liberal" masters in charge of our government. Does anyone here honestly believe that because Mr. Snowden revealed what was happening that the NSA actually stopped its spying programs rather than hid them better?

The NSA got a slap on the wrist and is back to spying; they are doing a better job of hiding it these days. So be careful when posting, because the Government Suits want to be entertained. So I guess post funnies or more cat pictures.

What does spying have to do with this? Wrong Planet is a public website so anyone can read the posts here; no spying necessary.

I felt that just posting that I post when I feel like I have something worth saying was too short and needed to put something more in. And I was wanting to have fun. Am bored somewhat.
