They might not be shallow at all. They have to appeal to the TV watching public, who have such short attention spans, and are seeking escape rather than "substance."

Reality show stars who voluntarily seek fame and attention, while fighting and plotting against other contenders, especially shows like "The Big Brother" and such. It's Such a useless show IMO - nothing to see there.
