I do ted to agree that identity is subjective and personal. However when identifying with an entire history, in a civil right organisation, you should at least be honest about where you have come from.
Personally, I wouldn't be too harsh on her if she's truly transracial.
Lying may have been the easiest way to go about it (black heritage), and if she didn't abuse her power in the organization, it really doesn't matter if she's white or black from an observer. Anyone can be experts on the rights of others without having to experience the plight themselves.
Of course, if it's a ruse to gain a position of power and special minority privilege, that's clearly criminal.
