She may have some fantasist disorder, or it might be straightforward deception. However with other people seemingly involved, it is not straightforward.

It does pose questions about identity though.

Apparently Marcus Garvey once complained after a visit to the NAACP offices that it was a white-run organization. But actually the "whites" he encountered were mostly Jews.

At the risk of being repeatedly informed again on Wrong Planet that I am racist, I believe that the voting members of the tax-exempt nonprofit group she leads have the right to choose who they wish.

You are right though it is up to their processes. However they wish to inspire public confidence.

If she's been living as a black for years and feeling on the inside that she's one, then she's as black as anyone else out there.

Race is a social construct, and what we see as black, white, and whatnot, are actually better described by behavior than the color of your skin.

A gerbil is a gerbil; a completely different species. Sure, you could try and live like a gerbil, but it's not going to work. Living like a different ethnicity is something you can do, and it'll work just fine; the only thing that might stop you from doing it is bigotry from others.

That is true, but she insists her adopted brother is her son and some other man is her father. There is also a strange report of hate mail that wasn't franked and needed a key to get into the box.

I do ted to agree that identity is subjective and personal. However when identifying with an entire history, in a civil right organisation, you should at least be honest about where you have come from.

Personally, I wouldn't be too harsh on her if she's truly transracial.

Lying may have been the easiest way to go about it (black heritage), and if she didn't abuse her power in the organization, it really doesn't matter if she's white or black from an observer. Anyone can be experts on the rights of others without having to experience the plight themselves.

Of course, if it's a ruse to gain a position of power and special minority privilege, that's clearly criminal.

Everyone is multi-racial, there is no pure race and we should reserve judgement. All the information so far is prior to 2006 she is Caucasian from Caucasian parents.

However genetically it is technically possible for two black parents to have a white child, and I'm not talking about albino either.

The NAACP needs to be disbanded, today it serves no function to society other than to help propel the liberal political correctness agenda. It's days of civil rights are long gone.

The fact that people on a web forum can say stuff like this (and get away with it) just shows how far we still have to go toward fighting casual racism in our society.

A white woman impersonating a black woman to become president of her city's NAACP chapter, just proves how much black people still need advocacy groups. We can talk about dismantling the NAACP when white people stop acting like it's their birthright to trample the racial identity of others.

Some people are saying she is "transracial".

Like a transgendered person .... she is black on the inside, and is merely altering her appearance to match the "inside person".
