I have to say that i think it's odd that "global warming" / "climate change" continue to be a political issue.

You may be skeptical of causes. You may be skeptical of long term projections. But if you've lived more than 20 years or so you should be able to observe that "normal" has been changing.

For example, as illustrated by XKCD: https://xkcd.com/1321/

People freaking out because there were a few cold days in St. Louis? There used to be a lot more cold days in St. Louis.

Whether you believe dire long term projections or not, all of the ways we can scientifically look into prehistory and guess at weather patterns suggest that stasis isn't a thing on the geological time scale.

I could see arguing that we are in a "normal" swing of the pendulum and eventually it will swing the other way, but arguing that it's not happening?

I'm sorry, the denial is starting to look silly.

I haven't been on this earth long enough to have a sample size relevant enough to make that statement, 24 years is a pretty insignificant amount of time and so it an entire lifetime really considering the Earth is billion of years old. There have been warm years and cold ones, long winters and shorter ones, its hasn't steadily changed, it just seems like weather. Like I said, most AGW proponents aren't particular educated on the subject and have this habit of crying whenever uses weather to disprove their theory but then turns around trying to claim whatever random weather event that fits their narrative was caused by AGW and will increase. You can't have it both ways, either its relevant or its not. Didn't some dodo try to claim a couple years ago that the earthquakes that happened were the result of global warming? There is so much confirmation bias in AGW that its hard to believe anything, you can try to remove the political implications from it but you have to understand that is why it receives so much attention.
97% of all climate scientists agree that it's already happening[nasa.gov]

it's no longer a question of whether it's occuring or not, the question now is how high the temperature will go.

So you're saying that there isn't consensus. 8)

120 years is an insignificant amount of years, you could shrink it to the last 15 and there hasn't been any warming. Expand the graph and you'll see that there have been numerous warming and cooling periods throughout Earth's history, we're leaving a cool period right now. Now where were all those emissions coming from a 100 million years ago? Also forgive me for not trusting climate models, they're a simulation of something that could never be replicated and these guys can't even get tomorrow's weather right now so I am to believe they were keeping accurate measurements of global temperatures a 100+ years ago? What is called "climate science" now is a made up subject, there entire point of it is to study the AGW theory so obviously they believe it. C

there would be, see that bit at the end?

not really, the last cooling period ended in the 70s[nasa.gov]

probably left over from the formation of the earth, which is why dinosaurs were so big

ok then, where's your source for your claims?

you're conflating climate science with your tv weatherman, and science isn't a question of belief.

I don't really see how global warming specifically effects medical treatment...however I would not be opposed to doctors being encouraged to explain health risks caused by environmental problems, if some of those are related to global warming so be it........but I'd think things like gross chemicals humans put into the air, destroying vast eco-systems, fracking and things that more directly cause health problems. Global warming more causes environmental changes to the weather/geology and crap not sickness.

We went over this. Pollen counts appear to be increasing in pace with global warming.

Every one of the last 20 years or so has been the worst year in recorded history for pollen allergies.

Knock on wood but I'm glad I don't have any allergies or asthma, pollen has no effect on me as far as I know. My parents actually live like right across the street from a giant melon field which is a ragweed and it doesn't ever really get cold. So yeah, I don't support a carbon tax.

Until magnolia trees start growing in Utah, I have no allergies. I learned years ago, living in California, that I am allergic to magnolias. Even then, it wasn't too aggravated.

If you can prove there's some connection between a physical symptom and "global warming", then cool.

Can you imagine what the physicians are thinking? "I spent eight years in medical school, one year internship and three years in residence so I could be some elected official's personal nudge?!?"
good point, how dare those students of science promote sound science.

the one thing that irks me most about the right is their anti-intellectual stance on issues.
Were it not for that, i'd probably be rightleaning

No, the right and left just practice intellectuality on different issues.
Coming from the left, I take being called an anti-intellectual, a philistine, a thug, or a churl as a compliment so by all means keep it coming. :D

this kind of contrarian stance is why America has been declining.

I don't believe it is contrarian. It is ambivalence of an illogical tactic. I have written at WrongPlanet.net that I don't care when people call me racist. It doesn't stick.

Yes, it's an awful place.
We live on rats and sawdust bread and sometimes... on each other. At night, the pyres for the dead light up the sky.
It's medieval.

A rather vociferous liberal at work one time took a little bit of an issue with the HK (you guessed it; Heckler & Koch) shirt I was wearing one day, stating in a contemptuous tone that he wasn't surprised I (being a conservative) would wear something with that logo on it. He said that I was knowingly supporting a company with obvious ties to neo-nazism (his words, not mine) and how disturbing it was. He looked to me to go on the defensive.
I snapped my heels together and extended my right arm sharply up at an angle and said in a clear sharp tone, "Arbeit macht frei Motherf***er. Six million dead _____ can't be wrong!"

I gave him the exact opposite of what he expected by aggressively turning into the attack instead of away from it. You should have seen the priceless expression his face. It went from total jaw dropping slack disbelief, to scared white, then blood red with rage when he knew he'd just been Pwn'd by me and that nothing would be done about it. The two or three others there laughed as he stormed away in anger. He would have no one to report it to with any real effect since most everyone there was a conservative, especially upper management, and were weary of his childishness. It would have been obvious to them that I was just giving him a richly deserved teasing.
At best they'd give me a good, albeit tongue in cheek, talking too but that's it. Nothing on my record and no suspension. He knew that and skulked for weeks, butthurt by the injustice of it all.
I ordered another H&K shirt and wore both a lot more just to rub salt in the wound.

I've given similar treatment to others that have asked for it before and since then. :P

Extra pollen does not necessarily mean increased allergies, BTW.

Regardless of whether or not climate warming exists or not, or whether or not climate change is contributing to pollen counts, doctors should be focused on why our bodies are reacting badly to non-threatening particles in the environment. *This* is medicine.

I live deep in the woods, and I have seen how much more pollen there is this year, after a very long, snowy winter (and late spring.) However, while my husband and I have had a *couple* of bad allergy days, our allergies are not worse than in other years. My husband used to have to take a daily asthma medication, but no longer needs to. My guess is it has to do with our lifestyle and the fact that we drink raw goat milk from our own goats - stuff that the government says is dangerous.

His mistake was the illogic of attack.

You have self-identified. We don't need your acquiescence, so it was unnecessary to seek it, and a mistake to seek it aggressively.

The "did you know that (x, y, z)?!" line is useless. You know. That you prefer it that way is what is wrong with you.
