Any idea if the big bins that people usually put all other rubbish bags in is a natural attractor of fruitflies? Currently, despite being closed all the time, it's full of small flies... have no idea how they got in (unless that is where they're born) and how they get out, besides momentarily, if I open it... the small bin also has flies in it, though, so not sure if it's just size...

They love anything rotting. The palm trees outside of my apartment flowered and dropped hundreds of seed pods that rotted in the sun, it stank of old booze. Within a few days the fruit flies showed up.
