Every year I get worried about the disappearing sunlight. I get more and more housebound.

To me: there is sometimes virtue in being out in the darkness. You are more anonymous that way.

I'm quite fond of shorter days, the sun's rays seem to trigger my migraines.

I sleep better when the days are shorter, so I rather like short days.

I spend a lot of time inside so I'm not really affected if the day is shorter or longer.

For much of my life I've been made very much aware of the changing amount of daylight hours by how it affects me. When I was young I used to say that there were really just two seasons; Winter, when the days get shorter, and Summer when they get longer. I didn't realize just how much a part of me that was until my Dad called me up on June 22nd this year and wished me a happy Winter!

Funny thing is, much as I dislike the effects of shortening days, I love the weather from now until February best (assuming we don't get one last heat wave here).

winter sucked until I took up night time photography. With earlier nightfall you dont have to be up as late. It is also highly technical which I like

It's harder to get up in the morning when it's still dark but other than that it doesn't really affect me.

My ancestry's mostly Norse or Alpine Swiss/Bavarian so as weird as it's gonna come off, I LOVE the cold. Literally every aspect of it, everything's quieter and less crowded, my insomnia wears off, I can ski, Thanksgiving/Xmas/New Years for keeping up with busy friends, snow donuts with ice race tires, 6 gears and 200+ horsepower... I seriously spend my entire year most of the time getting ready for winter. A recurring joke with a good Swedish friend of mine is that I'm most comfortable provided I'm freezing my a$$ off.

It's just a better place to be for me.

Sunlight triggers (some of) my sensory sensitivities, so i'm happy to see it go.

A combination of factors gives me "inverted seasonal affetive disorder", in which i get a summer depression rather than a winter one; now with the shorter days and lower temperatures, i'm a lot more happy, on average.

I've always sorta had a love-hate relationship with this. On one hand, I'm definitely very much attuned to the darkness, rather than the often too-bright daytime (particularly when driving!), so the longer night is good... but it comes with the unpleasant stupid of winter, and there's nothing I hate more than, well, cold things/places. Dairy products being the only exception.

It also has the advantage of there just not being many other people around... less traffic and not having to deal with lines or crowds in stores is nice.

Though, when ice and snow are present, none of this matters a bit, as I usually wont leave the house until it goes away.

Though, while the dark is good, the irritation that is winter will lead me into constant negative moods, regardless.

I sometimes get disappointed to realise that it's already ~6am although it's still dark outside. That sometimes happens in winter.

But in general I like both extremes. I like it when we are approaching one of the solstices. Either mid June or mid December.

I dislike the shorter days too. I always find them depressing. I like daylight. Even though I have social anxiety when going out in crowds, I still feel safer being out in the day than I do when it's dark. The dark just makes everywhere seem different, like a different atmosphere.

Grrr, I hate short days, it's always dark and depressing outside.
I love it when the golden morning sun shines when I get up and stays long enough to eat dinner on the balcony. My performance in the summer is MUCH better than in the winter and I usually get the winter blues.

In December we have sunrise at 7:30AM and sunset at 3:40PM. Can you imagine?
I don't mind morning darkness - I wouldn't mind if the sunrise was about 9AM even if i had to go to school but the afternoon darkness is terrible. I wish it was light outside at least till 5PM.

The time change day is especially depressing. They take 1 hour of already short day (sun sets at 5:30PM and the next day it sets at 4:30PM). Sure. It is a good thing to "sleep longer in the morning" but at what cost?
All this so the sunrise happens at 06:14AM instead of 07:12AM. WHY? Most people sleep in the mornings anyway and pretty much everyone is awake at 4:30PM!
Sure, if there is no winter time change sunrise in December would happen at 8:30 AM but what's the problem? Kids going to school in "darkness" for one or two months? What darkness? With all the snow and air humidity there is no darkness in December. Kids would have 1 hour more to play in sunlight after school at the cost of going to school in bluish-orange scenery of snow and streetlights.

Quite true! The seeing is so much better in winter and visible ISS sightings and Iridium flares move from 11:30 pm to a much more comfortable (and viable for my daughter) 8-9 pm (Northern Hemisphere).
