Does anyone here ever get a sensation like their skin is being pricked with hundreds of pins? It started this afternoon and it's getting reallyl painful, it's mainly down my back and shoulders. I've just had a look and there's no rash. It's not itchy, just very uncomfortable. Could it be anything to do with having the stress of having visitors? (I'm thinking of that saying 'makes my flesh creep'.)

Hmm... I get that on my legs when I sit on them for too long. But that's called pricks and needles I think. Perhaps it's from stress? :?

I haven't really had this that often, only a few times I can remember. It usually didn't last too long, and never got painful. Closest I think I've gotten to what you're experiencing is the few times I've smoked salvia, felt like it was all over my body. Then it was almost painful, but it was also really short-lived.

Stress is definitely a possibility, but if the sensation persists, especially if it persists and gets worse, probably best to check with a doctor.

It could also be a side effect from a drug, best to see a doctor, I think.

....or it could be seasonal allergies... I get what you describe when tree pollen is active and a Benadryl or its equivalent always shuts down the sensation. Benadryl does raise blood sugar levels though, so if you're diabetic please check with your physician before taking it.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I think I'll try the Benadryl first, I'm not diabetic. At least I can get it from a chemist~it'll be impossible to get a doc's appointment until at least Tuesday.
I wish I could take my skin off, it is just so darn prickly and uncomfortable! :(

Did you change your Laundry detergent recently? or used a different type of shower gel or bodywash? sometimes that can irritate the skin.

I get something similar, but I thought it was Peripheral Neuropathy disease. when I looked up the sensations and symptoms online, that was what I found.

That sounds scary, if it were happening to me I would suspect some sort of nerve damage or worse...

Maybe you can put your symptoms into an online symptom checker on a health site.

I tried the health checker and the Peripheral Neuropathy disease came up and also Hypoglycemia...then I found a forum where a lot of people posted about skin prickliness and who seem to have exactly the same symptoms as I do. A few people suggested taking magnesium supplements as apparently the 'prickles' can be a symptom of magnesium deficiency. Ah well, it can't hurt can it. If it's still as bad over the next few days I'll make a doc's appointment. Thanks everyone! :)
