Sometimes I can't post, especially if I've written a long post, because cloudflare will make me fill out this stupid captcha and send me back to where I was before with none of the text that I had written. It doesn't even attempt to post. It just goes into a loop. Ugh. Are there any other DDoS protection services?

As soon as you're asked to fill in the captcha, don't do it.
Instead, click "back" and copy the text.
Then fill out the captha.

That way you won't lose your message.

I don't know why this site insists on using such a glitchy/buggy probably at risk of causing viruses software program. Is Cloudflare even a legitimate program to run forums off of?

I don't understand what makes you think that cloudflare causes viruses.

Cloudflare is a DDoS protection package, and from what I've seen running NoScript, a lot of sites use it to handle their Javascript too. IMO, the software WrongPlanet runs on is really poorly suited to the amount of traffic it receives.

I said potentially virus causing....and because it seems all glitchy and unstable but I am not a computer expert hence why I said potentially as I am not sure what exactly makes something virus causing.

It takes skilled and malicious individuals, and groups of individuals, to purposefully, and skillfully, craft, viruses, and to put them on the Net.

"Viruses" are not random glitches that just accidently happen in cyberspace (like static on the radio), or cracks in your windshield.

I don't do that, and I've never lost a post to Cloudflare/Captcha.

And Cloudflare does NOT cause viruses!

Like I've said elsewhere: It's dependent on the user. YOU might not see it. But others run into Cloudflare on here REALLY FREQUENTLY.

Believe me, this "service" has way more problems than even the ones I've rambled about on this site. WAY more.

Doesnt cause viruses? You're right, it doesnt.

....too bad it's so terrible itself that it's almost WORSE than some viruses (okay, many viruses).

I actually consider Cloudflare to be dangerous. THAT is how bad I've seen it get (believe me, I've seen worse than what it does on this site). I increased the security on my machine (heavily) after running into that exploded disaster of a "service" as many times as I have, as it's VERY untrustworthy. One of the worst things I've encountered on the Net.

It doesnt give viruses, no. But it's a problem in it's own right. That anyone would TRUST the horrid thing with their site's security just baffles me. If I was running a site, and someone working under me even suggested using it, they'd be fired on the spot without hesitation. And then I'd throw a chair.

But yeah, Mr Bigmouth, when Cloudflare goes into Asshat Mode, just hit back on your browser twice, submit again, do the derpy capture thing or whatever, and it'll submit as if nothing happened.

As I mentioned in another thread, it's downright PATHETIC that this even works on it. Whats worse? The dumb thing is SO freaking stupid that it sometimes wont throw the captcha thing at you the second time, yet will allow the message through. In other words, this "security" thing can be COMPLETELY DEFEATED by using the BACK BUTTON. Yeah. It's no small wonder this freaking site DROWNS IN BOTS every few days.

Some things that will reduce or eliminate interference from Cloudflare:

- Keep your posts short.

- Don't use profanity.

- Don't use words that describe acts of violence.

- Don't use words that name the tools of violence.

- Don't use words that describe coital activities.

- Don't use words that name body parts associated with coital activities.

- Don't use words that are commonly used to insult others.

- Don't use words or terms commonly used to incite anger or fear in others.

- Don't "spam" the website with the same post in different fora.

- Don't post multiple replies consecutively in the same thread.

These are rules used by Cloudflare on this and other websites. Not all of these rules may be used on any one website; but they are common-sense practices anyway.

Glad these rules helped up you. I usually follow them but It loves to Capchta me anyway. Some days little, others so often it takes multiple times longer then it should to make a simple post. I tend to get it often late evening to middle of the night.

I don't particularly vary my posting style--sometimes my posts are long, sometimes short. I don't use a lot of profanity or spam threads, etc. Cloudflare seems very aggressive at certain times and is hardly present at other times. This is also true in PMs.

It seems random, or to be responding to other variables than the content or style of my posts.

Read the posts of those who complain about Cloudflare, and then read the posts of those of us who don't.

That's the fun part about it: Those often dont apply.

I've had Cloudflare act up even if I type in one or two sentences instead of my usual long posts (in any section, not just the gaming section that I'm often in). And I dont exactly stuff my posts with violent words. Things like explosions and laser bees only really fit that one specific gaming section of the forum, after all, games being filled with both.

And I've had it sometimes NOT act up after I've just done 5 really long posts in a row. Which could be chock full of explosions and laser bees.

It may have it's supposed rules, but as with every other aspect of itself, it's not good at following them, and I suspect there's something else to it that is having more of an effect than that list. Which is part of the whole problem.

All in all though, it's a mess, one way or another. And not exactly a trustworthy thing.

Besides: If it were following all those rules? It'd catch the ultra-hyper-obvious bots that plague the site FREQUENTLY. Instead? They pop up often, and usually stick around for awhile.... and Derpflare NEVER NOTICES. Completely and utterly useless. At this point? I very honestly have to wonder if it's actually making the problem WORSE somehow.

Hmm... I wonder how many bots actually attempt to register but fail thanks to the registration procedure.
