I was just told that if I keep expressing my views about PC crap that I will be banned. I'm not changing my opinions nor sucking up. I don't need this forum to keep me entertained so I'm voluntarily leaving. Those of you who wish to contact me can do so at Same as the olive oil at yahoo. Put the first five words together as one word and you know about the at yahoo business. If anyone wants to contact me you can do so there. This was taken too far and I have no desire to be part of anything that censors opinions.

Also Sly, I was told you said I never answered you so therefore they said I lied when I told them I was trying to help you. That was apparently another reason for the ban threat. We did correspond briefly and then my mother in law died so I was busy with my family. PMs are almost impossible to use for me because of the capcha. I would appreciate if you would clear up the notion that we never corresponded about what I was planning on helping you with, although I don't intend to come back even afterwards. I would like my new cleared about that misunderstanding though.

So, goodbye to those who I like and please stay on touch. If they allow this post to stay that is.

Y'all hit me up in email, there are some who I want to keep in touch with.

Later taters and good luck!

Hey Olive,

I didn't read the thread, I don't know what all of this is about bar a discussion about pc halloween costumes which all seems like a pc version of the Samhain festival anyways.

Samhain - when the division between this world and the otherworld was at its thinnest, the division of the year between the lighter half (summer) and the darker half (winter) this allowed spirits to pass through, so people dressed up as harmful spirits as a disguise to protect themselves from the harmful spirits while their ancestors were welcomed home. This honouring of the dead led to the Christian All saints and All souls on the 1st and 2nd of November.

It all seems like a meaningless reason to base any type of decisions, but I wish you good luck too.

I don't see why that thread would give you a warning. You didn't attack or insult anyone. Is someone abusing their mod powers again, I'm scared. :(

If possible can you show us what the warning said in it's entirety?

It's totally not right we loose another of our good citizens over
what could be an innocent post or a moderator's over reaction.

Makes me, with some of my outrageous posts, feel exposed,
vulnerable and unwelcome...and I know this was never Alex's
intent.

Come on Alex....step up.

While I don't care about the ban discussion at hand, I enjoy your posts, OliveOilMom.
I'd prefer you stayed.

Please, folks, relax and don't over react by allowing fear to creep in. The mods are not looking for reasons to ban anyone.

WP is a place you can express yourself freely. However, an attempt is being made to have more constructive debate and less "spur of the moment" stuff.

The apparent ban threat mentioned is in no way related to the "Halloween" thread, but concerned another matter altogether.

I'm not really sure what this is about because I don't personally review every warning. But if OliveOilMom was given a warning and she decided to leave the site, I don't know how there's anything I can do about it. People aren't forced to be members of Wrong Planet so if OliveOilMom would not like to post on WrongPlanet anymore, that's her decision.

ZenDen, were you threatened with a ban?

I'm just curious what the ban threat was for specifically, how it was worded, and who made it. I guess that's none of my business but it's nice to know what OOM is talking about and whether or not I should start walking around on eggshells in PPR.

The mods don't threaten to ban people. If someone is violating the rules, they get a warning. No one is being told that they'll be banned for posting unpopular opinions that don't violate any rules.

If that were true, a lot more people would be currently banned.

So OOM is lying?

"a lot more people would currently banned" is a bit ominous fwiw

Considering the fact that I just looked at the warning she received and it has nothing to do with political correctness (the warning was related to her making an unsupportive comment towards someone in the haven) I find it hard to believe that what OOM says is true.

We did recently send a message out to members who tread the line of civility but that was not directed specifically at any single members and was not really a warning but just a request for cooperation in improving the environment of the site. This is the form letter sent out to quite a few people:

Quote:
"The mod team (including Alex) are currently focusing on ways to make WP a less contentious place. To this end we have decided to ask certain members (especially those who post a lot) to take particular care not to post from a consistently negative or argumentative position, nor habitually contradict posters expressing positive support for members seeking this. Your voluntary co-operation with this request from now on would be deeply appreciated. Should no change be forthcoming then bans may be imposed, though hopefully this will not be necessary."

It seems pretty reasonable to me and doesn't contain any specific threats regarding bans.

I agree. There is no ban threat implicit here. In fact, it is trying to avoid bans being imposed by requesting people to co-operate. People are in fact very seldom banned except for obvious spam.

It sounds like it could have been a misunderstanding between OOM and the mod. I don't know what the warning said but I think it would always help if the mod would post a url to the thread or repost their post in their warning so the member will know what the warning is about so they are not having to make any assumptions or guesses.

When I would get warnings in the past, almost 99% of the time I had no idea what the hell they were talking about and even asking them about it would leave me no response and they wonder why I "broke so many rules"? I can only remember one time when one only showed me the thread I posted and the rule I broke and that was the most concrete thing ever in the warning. I then knew to not ever post links to other forums because that is considered an attack on another forum.

"Should no change be forthcoming then bans may be imposed"

To me that seems like an implicit threat of being banned if you don't shape up, perhaps she took it that way presuming that PM was sent to her. The way the message is worded as a whole is in kind of an odd Orwellian doublespeak, I would suggest that mods be a little more open with their initiatives and if it isn't directed at any one person in particular then post it publicly since it should go for everyone anyways. I don't think anything requested is unreasonable either, feel better I guess knowing I didn't get that PM.
