It seems like most aspies/auties I hear about flap their hands when they're upset. Am I the only one who does it when happy or excited? I couldn't possibly flap my hands when upset; it would feel SO unnatural.

You're not the only one, though I don't think *I* have EVER flapped. Does it make you happier if you flap? Some stuff I may never understand.

No flapping here. A young boy I knew did this whenever excited or scared or any major emotional reaction.

What is hand flapping? I've read about it but I don't understand what that means.

It's when you flap your hands like a bird, wave them in front of your face, or wring them rapidly, as a stim.

I do this when I'm very excited, never when I'm upset. It's like when I get so excited about something (often a special interest) I get so filled with excited energy that I have to let it out, so I start flapping my hands and jumping up and down. It's one of the things that hasn't changed since I was a very small child, although I've learned not to do it in front of other people.

Yep, I do this when someone online I like comes on or says something that makes me feel good, and sometimes in real life too when excited. :) Though I have variations on it and often sort of do this thing with my arms in instead, like I am playing a drum?

I don't hand flap either. For one, it'd be totally embarrassing. And two, it's definitely not considered "normal" as most people view me.

This is one of those crazy things, you know, who would do that? I had no idea of such a thing until I read of it. Then I found that I do flap my hands. Holy Ned.

And I can flap 'em good when I am excited. No wonder everyone thinks I'm a bit off! lol! Autistic fun! And it is free too.
