Aristotle's Refrigerator
Aristotle was a smart guy! I heard on the radio about 8 months ago that he had no accurate idea of how his body used his brain. The report said that Aristotle's best guess was that it was some kind of cooling device. His brain was some kind of refrigeration mechanism. I wonder where all his good ideas came from?
Sometime around the first grade I suppose that I thought that my brain was the place that my thoughts came from. I assume it is because someone told me that, I don't know.
Until 8 months ago I was under the belief that I could feel the activity in different parts of my brain. Even though for many years I have had some learned knowledge of the phisiology of my brain, I still for some reason thought I could feel neural activity. Stop laughing. I have gone through some periods of depression and noticed that reading certain kinds of literature would make me feel better. I thought that reading was stimulating my frontal lobe and eliminating the depression. Whetether it was or not, I thought I could feel it physically occuring in my brain. I can think of dozens of sensations I thought I could feel in my brain. After hearing about Aristotle's "Concept of Brain" I realize that I have been imagining these neural sensations the whole time. I feel kind of silly now.
I was wondering if anyone else has imagined the samething? I still do, everyday. I think I can feel the images from my eyes go straight back to the brain. Oh well.
I was also wondering if anybody else has some embarassing misconceptions?
Not laughing at all focused. I have similar sensations to what you describe. Sometimes I get sharp horrible bolts of lightening in my brain too. This is usually assosiated with sight or sound or touch.
I need to be fairly aware of what I'm telling my body to do and what it is actually doing, so I don't know if this affects it or not.
Not too sure if its imagined or not though. I too always figured it is real.
