I am fearful that I will never move out of my mother's house, which is why I have created this poll to see how old others were when they 'left their nest'.

I don't think I'm applicable but if it's any consolation my daughter lives at home with me, she's 23 and there is no sign of her moving out any time soon.

I moved out when I was 19. It would've been sooner but I had Leukaemia at 16/17. As soon as I was healthy again, I got a job, saved up and moved out. I've never looked back since, and I'm now 26.

Not moved out yet but I'm only 17. I want to have moved out by the time I'm 21 though

I'm 23 and still living at home. I have no idea when I'm going to move out. Part of me wants to, the rest of me is terrified.

Less than a month after I turned 18. I started preparing to go when I was about 12.

I moved out at around 18 or so. Then I moved back in. Then I got another place and moved out. When that place was finished with I moved back in til I got another place. I repeated this cycle about 10 times.

I moved out at age 29, when I landed my first job in Chicago. I moved back 5 years later, after losing that job. I moved to Philadelphia at age 37, and back home at age 39 to stay until mom's death and my brothers, decided I was a loser and threw me out permanently (and told me to f!ck myself, then to kill myself) at 54.

23  And that pisses me off because it was all down to ignorance. I believed I had no other choice. No money, couldn't hold a job, couldn't expect a girlfriend/boyfriend to support me because I couldn't keep one of those either, I thought it was either stick it out in my parents' house or die on the streets. If I had known about the social services available specifically to young people, I would have been the hell out of there the moment I turned 18.
