It's been 11 months since my ex of seven months broke up with me. He ended it up because he moved to Europe for work. I was willing to have a long distance relationship and visit him, but he broke up with me before I even had the chance to. He said he broke up with me because he couldn't handle the distance and was afraid he'd cheat on me.

Is it normal to still think about (and want to be) with him? We don't talk anymore (he's busy with work), and it makes me sad... I'm even thinking about applying to jobs where he's at in Europe. I have a genuine interest in these select few companies, but part of me is scared that he won't even want to see me and that I'll end up depressed again even if I'll have a good job.

You seem like you really like the guy.

It's not "abnormal" to still feel the desire to see this guy, and to miss him.

I wish I could tell you that this guy, like in the movies, would suddenly come back to you after thinking it over a while.

In real life, though, this probably won't happen.

I would just keep alive the cherished memories, all the good times you had with this guy.

But I would seek another person for your future.

Go with that last sentence you wrote. He isn't trying to even get in touch with you anymore and its been 11 months. You could make a HUGE mistake moving there unless he was actively talking to you and both of you were traveling to see each other. I don't like how he ended it. That's just my thoughts.

How long did you know this guy and how long were you in love with him before you started dating?

@Non_Passerine We kinda start dating right away. It started off casual then became serious. I fell in love with him maybe 2.5 months into the relationship.

21 months and still not fully over it! Join the club. Yes it is normal to think and feel that way......It takes time. I say try to find some new platonic friends. Particularly female. That is, ones you can talk to. Do not communicate with him at all and better yet cut him off completely if he tries to initiate further contact.

Speaking from experience, the best thing you can do is move on. Part of mastering one's autism is making sure that "needle" on the turntable doesn't remain stuck on the same record band - look up 33 RPM records if you don't understand that. To have things trigger memories is human and it happens. But don't waste your time or your life on speculating on "what could have been". A person who truly loves another will not leave them - for any reason. When I was dating my wife, I had a marvelous job opportunity - that I turned down because of how much I loved - and still love her. It would have meant moving away from her. Yes, I lost out on the job I turned down - but that situation only made me love my wife more - so much I proposed to her a few days later. We've been together 14 years now. True love never leaves.

You don't have to move on, as long as you accept that he probably has.

Cherish the time you had together and look forward to what the future may bring with or without him.

+1
With the abrupt way he ended it my first thought was that he'd already found someone new across the pond.

I was only in a relationship with my 1st ex for 6 months but we were friends a while before we became a couple. I was really missing her for 7 years till I got my 2nd girlfriend.
